happy holidays! NO! merry christmas… WAIT, what about us?!

I honestly didn’t think that I would be writing this post, but alas, here it is. I want to know why it is such a huge deal to say “happy holidays” as opposed to “merry christmas”. Now, I understand that Christians feel the need to focus on the holiday season as Christ-centric; but I would like to believe that in this day and age that the notion of Christmas, or whatever you celebrate during the holidays, has transcended just a 24 hour window (especially considering that Christmas pretty much starts 3 weeks before the actual day, and all culminates with the actual Christmas-orgasm of presents and turkey on the actual day). I do believe that it is necessary to focus on being all inclusive, and consider other world religions, many of which celebrate similar holidays around this time, and deserve the same consideration that Christians get; after all, they don’t get a day off of work for their religious celebration. I think that this is more than just being “PC”, I think that it shows the ability and desire to be considerate and understanding. I think that it shows compassion and togetherness; which, for those of us keeping score, is supposed to be what the “holidays”, and even Christmas, are all about.

to ponder Potter; or not?

Well, this weekend, I managed to FINALLY see the new Harry Potter movie. I was going to write a review, but I am unsure if I would be treading too much on already heavily travelled ground, so I thought I would ask; do you want me to write one? If so, then I would be glad to do one ASAP. After the great response to my RENT review, I figured I would ask. Just comment and let me know. If 5 or more people want to see it, my review that is, then thy will be done; so to speak. So let me know. (This is where you start commenting…)

I’m famous, don’t hate me!

First things first, people seem to be hating on Aeon Flux. I think that it is going to be some great mindless action-y/special effects goodness, and I can’t wait. My anticipation for that one is mostly based on my love the for the comic, so I guess if you didn’t like it, then I can see why you wouldn’t care. And Jen’s right, it should have been Jolie in the part…

Which brings me to the topic the title of this post implies; why do people hate certain celebrities and give some celebrities such a hard time? I have noticed that people tend to take sides and stances when it comes to certain celebrities, and I guess, as the curious little bee that I am, I wonder why that is. I want to know why some people hate Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, and so on. What is it about these people that we just can’t stand? Or, what is it about these people that we just want so desperately to hate, we find reasons; regardless of how ridiculous they are? Suspend the obvious reason for a moment (jealousy), and let’s take a look, shall we?

to advertise, or not?

I have been reading this morning about advertising programs, like Adsense by Google, and have been wondering if any of these programs would actually be for me. First off, I must say that the very reason that I bothered purchasing my own web domain and hosting service, is so that I wouldn’t have to see those pop ups, as well as so I wouldn’t be so limited by the space on a free account. With that being said, I am not totally against banner ads and ad links; especially if they were to pay for the hosting service fees, and be somewhat minimal. I believe that would make enough of a difference, to me at least, and I wouldn’t cringe at the site of those ads; in fact, I might grow to love them. So why don’t I just sign up, and start advertising, you ask??? Well, I want to know what other people think.

where oh where do I go????

I need some help. I have a tattoo that I want covered up. I wrote about this earlier, but it was more to see WHAT I should get. Now, I want to know if anyone knows WHERE I should get it? as in, what shop, and by whom. (I know, I know, I haven?t gotten it yet, but I am going to, I just need some advice!) If you know someone/somewhere in/around Atlanta that just completely rocks your face off, let me know where this is. Ask your friends, you mom, I just want to know somewhere that is really good. I don?t want to replace a shitty tattoo with a shittier bigger tattoo (for the record, my current one isn’t THAT bad, it just isn’t the best tattoo I have). I want to get it done kind of soon, so let?s move on this, okay people? Also, I want to make sure that this place has a good reputation with not only tattooing, but cover ups for old tattoos as well. Thanks for you input in advance!

“new” tattoo

I am getting a tattoo of mine covered up in the next couple of days, and I have to make a decision; but wanted to see what people thought. I have pretty much already decided, so this isn’t a make or break type thing, but it is always good to know what people think. I was thinking of covering the tattoo, which is an ankle band, with a tribal freehanded design. I am leaning more towards a Maori-influenced piece. This would also mean it would be badass black, and would be only for me. Does that sound cliche at all? OR I was thinking that I could get some sort of northwest Indian design, I have one in mind, that would be more “spiritual” or whatever. Also cliché¿ Whatever. Let me know what you think.

an opinion posting, of sorts. (I need your help!)

Turns out that the repairs to my car ended up being way more than $450. More like $2000. But? and here is where you come in? I have a choice to make. See, the remaining $1500 or so has not been spent, and I need some perspective and help to make this next decision:

Should I cut my losses, trade the car in like it is, and get a new one? Or, should I just pay the money to get it fixed, after getting a second or third opinion, of course?

to Roth or not to Roth…

In the continuing effort to write more often, which was initiated just yesterday, I would like to talk about the next big step I have chosen to implement in my life, which occurred around 10 am this morning. I have opened my own IRA. Some may say, about time; some may say good for you; hell, some may say so what; and that is all good. But I am pretty jazzed about it, I am on my way to making a future, and there is always something that feels good about that. I have the house, the honey, and the dog… why not retirement? Yeah.

Also, I have decided that I want to work more on recreational writing. This may mean that you see some pretty weird stuff, and I say, go with it. Understand it. Embrace it. Just don’t rub it… too much.
