I’m famous, don’t hate me!

First things first, people seem to be hating on Aeon Flux. I think that it is going to be some great mindless action-y/special effects goodness, and I can’t wait. My anticipation for that one is mostly based on my love the for the comic, so I guess if you didn’t like it, then I can see why you wouldn’t care. And Jen’s right, it should have been Jolie in the part…

Which brings me to the topic the title of this post implies; why do people hate certain celebrities and give some celebrities such a hard time? I have noticed that people tend to take sides and stances when it comes to certain celebrities, and I guess, as the curious little bee that I am, I wonder why that is. I want to know why some people hate Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, and so on. What is it about these people that we just can’t stand? Or, what is it about these people that we just want so desperately to hate, we find reasons; regardless of how ridiculous they are? Suspend the obvious reason for a moment (jealousy), and let’s take a look, shall we?

For the sake of example, let’s take each of these three women that I identified, and work through some of the reasons I have noticed that people seem to dislike or use take a stance against them.

First, let’s look at Lindsay Lohan. Now, as we all know, I love Lindsay. I think that she is awesome. Totally awesome. She is a good actor, a pretty decent singer, she’s really hot; the list goes on. But for some reason, whenever she goes out on the town, people cling to every potential misstep she may make, in order to discredit her or attempt to create a semblance of something we can hate in her. People want to hate Lindsay Lohan. Is it because she is a bad role model? No, in fact, most 19 year old girls do very similar things that Lindsay does; just not in the public eye. I was 19 once, and I remember going out to the bars and seeing girls getting buck wild; but no one was all over their case about it. They were just being 19 year old girls. But, Lindsay should have to set an example, right? Well, if you were 19, regardless of who you were, would you feel the responsibility to set a good image? Probably not, after all, you are 19, time to have fun, right? And, that is only exacerbated by the millions of dollars she has sitting in the bank. All I see is a pretty girl having a pretty good time. No need to ride her ass about it. Get over it, she rocks. (This could also be applied to MKAO, Duff, the cast of the OC, the list goes on…) [image from junk-feud.com]

Moving on… Now, I want to focus on the ever hated Angelina Jolie. This is especially one I don’t get. Now, I understand why people would not necessarily care for her as an actor, or whatnot, but that is not the main reason people are against this woman. Forget the fact that she is a worldwide humanitarian, and has 2 adopted children for a second; because most people either forget it about that and move on, or they use that against her. No, the reason people hate Jolie is because she “Å“stole” Brad Pitt from the lovable Jennifer Aniston. Give me a break. First, before I even get into this, let me ask you one thing, how many of you out there ACTUALLY know any of these three people? Really? Okay, only you 2 in the back can actually have a real opinion then, because you 2 are the only ones that really knew what happened. As for the rest of you, GET OVER IT. I am sick of this Team Jolie/Team Aniston shit. BRAD PITT LEFT ANISTON! BRAD PITT!!!! NOT JOLIE! Sure Jolie is as hot as fuck, and that probably led Brad to want to stray, but let’s not blame the woman because she is so sexy. That is just plain silly. Brad did the right thing and ended his marriage because he wanted to do something else. Most of the guys in this country don’t have the balls to do something half that honorable, and would just cheat. And I know what you are saying… didn’t Brad cheat? Well, other than those two people back there, we really can’t say for sure, but I am going to go with no. Jolie has said numerous times about how she never forgave her father for cheating on her mother, and how she would never get wrapped up in adultery because of it. So there. Get off Jolie. She is awesome. And I am totally buying Mr. and Mrs. Smith on DVD; I would like to think that my $15 will directly contribute to a Jolie/Pitt family love nest. So there. And finally, finally, finally… Brit Brit. Aka, Britney Spears. Spederline. Whatever you want to call her and the train wreck, ah, I mean as-of-right-now-husband. Sure, she is trashy, sure she is a hick, and sure, she married a complete and utter loser; but why is that so different from anyone else? People do that every day! When Britney takes a shit, people want to know about it! I saw some idiotic pictures of her going to the mall to get fries and nachos yesterday. That’s weird, a woman that just gave birth might want something to eat?!?! Send in the paparazzo! GET HER!! I guess I am just saying that by idolizing her poop habits and following her every move, we are doing the exact opposite of hating her, we are loving her. Sure, you may say that you hate her, but if you know what happened to her and the baby pictures, then it just shows that you care enough to pay attention. If you hated her, you wouldn’t. Britney rocks, warts and all. In fact, that is why I like her even more now, because she is potentially a real person. [image from gobritney.com]

Regardless of what you or I think about any celebrity, I just wonder why we develop these opinions. Is it because of what we read that some clever little fag at E Online wrote, or that we saw on the cover of US Weekly? Is it because of who they really are, and what they really do in their lives; as if we actually have any way of knowing? Sure, you may have met them, and they may have been a dick to you, but how do you act to homeless people begging you for money? Probably the same way a celebrity would act to someone bothering them for an autograph. These things don’t make these people bad people, and all it does is show our jealousy for them. We want to be them so badly, that we find reasons to hate them. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, but I think that we should call a spade a spade, and be done with it. Now, with that out of the way, I completely hate Hilary Duff, Kim Stewart, Paris Hilton, Ashley Olsen, and Micha Barton. Why? I think you know.
