Edwards Rally, Atlanta GA

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing John Edwards come to Atlanta, GA (THANKS JOSH!!!) and talk about the plans for the future of our country, given that he and Kerry take office. All I need to say is: I certainly hope they do. It really gives me a lot of hope to hear it “from the horse’s mouth” when it comes to many of the issues that are on the table with this election.
The issue of healthcare is especially exciting to me. Just the idea that they even want to TRY and get a nationalized health care program in place is wonderful. There couldn’t be a better idea. Working in public health really teaches you one major lesson: the poor are the ones that suffer the most. And this is so true. The poor are afflicted with every disease, and more often than not, die of diseases that could be treated or prevented, due to the lack of assistance and access to health care. In a country that is so wealthy, is that really fair? I would GLADLY pay more taxes so that people that cannot afford health care could have access to it, as it would mean I would have access to healthcare as well (even though I am one of those that happen to be insured). This is just something to think about, when you want to choose who should be president/VP. It makes at least FEEL like they have the PEOPLE’S best interests at heart (at least their health, anyways).

And where will this money come from (I am sure many that are reading this will ask)? Well, taxes should be paid by how much you make, the more you make, the more taxes you pay, that is just how it is. If I were to get a job tomorrow that paid 100k a year, I would able to afford more taxes than I pay right now, so why not pay them? I would certainly not be hurting for money. But I don’t want to ramble on, I am just excited about the possibility of change. Hopefully this country can get back to compassion and sincerity instead of trying to make a buck at whomever’s expense.
My mom said something to me the other day that really kind of bothered me, she said, “as long as the rich people are happy, they won’t fire as many people, and they are willing to give back a little more”. Well, given the current trends (this refers to the past 4 years folks), the rich people must be pissed, and we have given them fantastic tax breaks, refunds, and incentives… so what’s the problem? Who knows mom. Who knows.
