Atrocity in Iran: Two boys killed for being gay

I am sure that by now, everyone has heard about (and probably written about) the two teenaged boys that were hanged in Iran for being gay. Not only does writing this and thinking about this actually happening make my physically ill, it makes me wonder: what is it about being gay that is so wrong, that it would warrant such behavior or action? It also makes me question, and really being to look deeper at, the stance and direction the southern Baptist convention is taking in our American struggle for equality and civil rights. Thats when I begin to have scary thoughts like: Could it ever get this bad here in the USA? Could there come a time when people are hanging for being gay?

Well, probably not, but it is something that should at least be in the back of your mind. I know that it is in the back of mine. Also, the recent bombing on Queer as Folk made me think the same thing. It too, even though it is just a dramatic show, shocked me and made me feel ill. The reason I have the same reaction, is honestly because there are people in this world that would rather kill you, or have your be dead, rather than just be gay. It still shocks and terrifies me, that there are people walking the streets, living next to you, sitting next to you in traffic scowling at the rainbow sticker on your car; that feel this way. That, if pushed a little bit further, if convinced, would actually do something horrible; just because you are gay. Why is being gay so threatening? It doesn’t affect anyone but the person that is gay and the person they love (who should also be gay). It doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with anyone else.

I honestly never had a glimmer of any of these thoughts in my mind when I came out, and I hate that things like this are reality. I mourn deeply for those boys, and my heart cries out for their parents and family. The people responsible should be punished, and no one should be allowed to forget this: if only as to prevent it from happening again. I just hope that some people out there that are filled with such hate for gay people realize that we are all just people, and all we want to do is just live and be happy; no different from you. We do not pose a threat to family, morals, values, or anything. We are just normal people who want to be left alone. So please, think twice: these boys could have been your kids.

*I noticed that there are a bunch of people that are posting about this topic, and putting the photos on their sites. I have not done this, because honestly, it makes me want to throw up and cry when I see them, and I just can’t handle all of that.
