Happy Friday, everyone, it’s that time again; time for another installment of the five song Friday!

The Bird and The Bee – Heard It On The Radio
The only “new” original track from their most recent release, a cover album/tribute to Hall and Oates, The Bird and The Bee harness their delightful quirkiness effortlessly on this wonderful airy hit. While the rest of the album is a guilty pleasure for sure, there is nothing to feel guilty about while listening to, and loving this song; it is sweet, warm, and perfect for a spring time drive. I have been a fan of The Bird and The Bee from day one, and this is yet another amazing song that I can add to my list of favorites by them. Be sure to check out the rest of the album as well, because they do Hall and Oates covers like no one else; they add a whole new level of fun!

Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man
The album Sigh No More is one of those albums that I only wish I would have discovered sooner; it is an amazing album from beginning to end. I love the weathered, raspy vocals, and the light speed guitar and banjo strumming on this song, factors which are also present on many of the other tremendous folk-rock songs on the album. This is one of those songs that you hear and realize you have stumbled onto something amazing, and in my case, it is then that I get excited about sharing it with others. If you haven’t heard of Mumford & Sons before today, consider yourself educated about a truly amazing and talented band, and if you love this song, you will adore the rest of their most recent release, Sigh No More; I know I do.

Vampire Weekend – Giving Up The Gun
I will admit that I was a bit hard on Vampire Weekend when they started putting out singles from their most recent album, Contra. The first, Horchata, didn’t blow me away, and the second, Cousins, took me a while to warm up to. However, when I saw them on SNL a few weeks ago, and they performed this song, it was then that I saw and heard the Vampire Weekend that I fell so deeply in love with when they released their debut back in 2008. Low and behold, they’ve since released this as the third single from Contra, and I have been loving this track (and the rest of the album) more and more with each listen. I’m glad this amazing song got me back on track, and back to loving the Vampire Weekend that I was missing. Also, be sure to check out the playful video, because my lover, Jake Gyllenhaal is in it (and the lead singer of Vampire Weekend is quite dreamy as well!).

Broken Bells – Vaporize
What do you get when Danger Mouse and the lead singer of The Shins collaborate? Something pretty awesome, as far as I am concerned. This is my favorite song from their recent collaborative effort, the self-titled debut from Broken Bells. This song truly highlights both of their musical sensibilities, and makes for a wonderful listening experience; this is definitely the best song on the album for me. I fully expect to see this on a lot of best of lists for 2010, because when you have someone as consistently talented as Danger Mouse collaborating with someone as downright amazing as James Mercer of The Shins, it’s bound to get attention; and it certainly has captured mine.

Robyn – Fembot
Ever since Robyn posted this new song on her website, I have been getting more and more excited about a new release from her; so it’s a good thing there’s going to be THREE new albums from this Swedish pop-goddess in 2010. That’s right ladies and gents, 2010 looks like it’s gonna be a huge year for Robyn, who has proven that she has still got it with this extremely catchy pop gem. If this is any taste of what we can expect in the following three releases this year, it seems that Robyn is hell bent on becoming the true, all reigning queen of pop; and if it’s anything like her previous self-titled release, she’s certainly going to get my vote. Rumor is, that the first of three albums comes our way in June; I for one cannot wait.

Alright kids, there’s your five songs for this wonderful Friday. What did you think? Please leave me delicious comments and let me know; and be sure to let me know what you are listening to as well! Have a great weekend!

presumably something for everyone!

Happy Monday kids!!! So, things are a bit all over the place in my brain today, so I thought I would just jot it all down, and put it out there; since I am sure that there is a little something for everyone. Perhaps it will cure your boredom, or at least give you something to think about! Here we go… ready?

  • I have been listening to Muse, Zwan, and a lot of ROCK lately. I am enjoying the hell out of it too; it totally reminds me of my alternative/rock days where Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins were all I listened to. For some reason, people find it odd that I love hard rock, but alas, there it is. To continue that thought, I cannot wait until July 24th; Guitar Hero Encore: Rocking The 80s comes out. I will be at Best Buy that day getting my copy. Want to come over and play? Hopefully, that can calm my intense hunger for Guitar Hero III; which I should probably be saving up for, since I have to get everything for the Wii.
  • This is fantastic news. I am really happy when justice is truly served. This guy didn’t deserve to go to jail for a consensual sex act; no one does. I am happy to see that he is finally free; although, the prosecutors are seeking an appeal. Ugh, leave the kid alone, he has already done 2 years in jail for no reason.
  • This is like my nightmare. I love roller coasters, and have always thoroughly enjoyed them, but this type of thing just scares me. I know it is highly unlikely, but still, I can’t imagine being stuck at the top of Acrophobia at Six Flags over Georgia for that long. I would pass out, piss myself, and probably have an aneurysm while they were trying to save us. That is probably why I don’t ride that one anymore; it is too much for me to handle, and I heard that it actually did get stuck at the top once, and they had to manually lower it. Fuck that. I feel bad for those people, because they are probably ruined on roller coasters now.
  • Here’s the only thing you will hear from me about the whole Paris Hilton thing: Paris, none of us think for a second that you are just “acting” dumb. You are dumb. And rich. And that is the only reason why anyone even pays you any attention. Just do your time for the crime you committed, and move on. I am certainly sick and tired of hearing about you and your grossly over-privileged ass.
  • Apparently, there are drugs in the water in Albania. I mean, that is the only way I can truly understand why these people think that Bush is such a symbol of democracy. Those in Rome had a better idea of exactly who he is; and it is sad that there are still herds of people that are blinded by how awful this man and his presidency truly have been and continue to be. Also, how can people really trust someone who doesn’t bother remembering his position on things? This is someone that we are trusting to keep us safe, and he can’t even remember his position on global affairs and foreign policies. Yikes. I am awe that people still think he is doing a great job; this is just another example of how out of it he really is.
  • This is just creepy, but it is immensely informative. I watched the video for my car, and I was pleased to see that it crashes “well”. One of the biggest selling features for my car was the air bags and the safety features. Any of you that live and drive in Georgia know that you have to be protected from these assholes that love to fly down the road, talking on their cell phones, and not paying attention to anything. It still blows my mind that people don’t take driving more seriously; you are gambling with your life people!
  • There is a whole mess of hotness out there these days; and I am not talking about the weather. I was at the gym the other day, and I noticed John Cena on someone’s TV, and I was reminded at how “DAYUM(!!!!)” he is. While I think the whole wrestling thing is silly, and that movie ‘The Marine’ was pretty bad, he is so fucking hot, that it is almost worth sitting through that crap to see him. What a hunk. *drool* Also, I am totally loving me some Seth Rogen. I have thought he was cute since I saw him in 40 Year Old Virgin, and now that he is all over the place because of his new movie, I am drooling over him heavy. I have to get to the theater and see Knocked Up! Man, I could seriously stare at men all day; I am definitely a visual person. Good thing there are so many hotties to look at!!! Side note: Don’t worry, Jake, you are still my number one, honey!
  • Finally, let’s end on an amazingly HIGH note: Sara Bareilles‘ album, Little Voice, is coming out July 3rd!!!!!!!!!! I am so fucking excited, because as I have said numerous times, I absolutely adore Sara, and have been following her for years. I love her music, and I am so looking forward to her getting more exposure, and hopefully the recognition she deserves. If you haven’t already, go and download her EP in iTunes. You won’t be sorry; she is one of the best singers out there, and you must do yourself a favor and check her out!!! Congrats Sara!!! I will probably blog more about this as we near the release date; as I said, I am super excited about this!

Whew! Did you get all of that!?!?! Have a great afternoon!

and I haven’t even been drinking!

I woke up this morning feeling drunk, and I haven’t even been drinking. What a rip off. Being sick is no fun. My feet are cold, and my hands are sweating. Fevers suck. I hope everyone else is having a fun Friday, and if you could, could you sneak in a little fun for me? I am going to be going home to lay on the couch and try not to feel like crap. Hopefully, this shit will clear out so I can at least enjoy my weekend; the two days I look forward to all week. Since this is a little depressing, I thought I would put something a little extra special on here to not only cheer me up, but perhaps bring some of you joy as well: two lesbians were “allowed” to marry in Massachusetts, who reside in Rhode Island. While I still don’t understand why gay marriage is an issue, I offer them the utmost congratulations, and hope that someday, James and I can celebrate our relationship on a level that is equal to the other hetero citizens of this country. We want rights too! At least this is another baby, baby, baby step in the right direction.

Also, I saw Ugly Betty last night… that show is awesome! Can’t wait till next week! There is so much good on TV, who would’ve thought it possible?! Oh yeah, and now for the really good goods: Jake! He has been missing for far too long. Welcome back Jake, I have always, and will always love thee.

Here is is with the lovely Natalie Portman who I am in complete love with (you will be too once you watch V for Vendetta). I don’t know about you, but I think he is totally hot in that beard. Woof!

Also, speaking of hot mens… I honestly don’t care if you agree or not, but I think John Favreau is kinda hot… especially in the Break Up:

As Vince said, and said so very true, I do have a think for bearded hunky men. Yes I do. Here’s my current desktop on my PC, appropriately, of BabyDaddy from Scissor Sisters. (I would have posted a picture of him too, but I did that the other day… don’t want to give you guys SS overload!) Now that I have put you on a beary high, I will bid a sickly adieu… Have a good weekend folks!

I am just living to be lying by your side…

But I’m just about a moonlight mile on down the road.

Last night, I watched one of my favorite movies, Moonlight Mile, again (no, it isn’t my one of my favorites JUST because Jake is in it; but that doesn’t hurt). James told me to pick something slow that he could fall asleep to, and I knew this would do the trick for him. But for me, as I sat there watching it again, I realized how sometimes a thought, a feeling, an expression, or even, a song, can challenge you to really feel something. You can watch what people go through in their lives, and see how something can shake you so hard to the core, that you can’t figure out which direction to head in next. Life can come to a stand still in an instant, for whatever reason, and you might not be able to figure out how to get it moving again.

I love this movie, mainly because it teaches you about honesty, relationships, understanding, compassion, and finding the courage to do what’s right; even if it doesn’t feel like the right thing to do. I don’t know if you have seen this movie, and I don’t know if you care, but definitely check it out if you haven’t; you are bound to find something in it you like. It is definitely about something unforeseen that can shatter a life, and helps you to understand what different people might do in that situation.

It honestly gives me hope that I can get moving again.

Sidenote: We also tried to watch Wasabi Tuna, and let me just pose this question; why in the hell aren’t there more good gay movies out there? We couldn’t even make it through 10 minutes of this “comedy”. I am starved for good gay cinema that depicts gay people in real life; will no one hear my cry?

Listen:
Rolling Stones – Moonlight Mile
Van Morrison – I’ll Be Your Lover Too
Elton John – Razor Face

best kiss, amidst all of this

Well, we know that there are definitely some haters out there (especially amongst the recent political wedging), but it seems that most of them are old farts. This year at the MTV movie awards, the best kiss went to Jake and Health for Brokeback Mountain. That just goes to show that our generation is a lot more accepting, and well, that we vote on silly MTV awards shows. Either way, it is an excuse for me to send props to my favorite celeb! Congrats Jake! And Jake, FYI, I am REALLY digging the beard. Keep that up, handsome! Rowr!

Also, it seems that no one was feeling yesterday’s post. Too long? Too much shared? Yikes. MANY people emailed me and told me how glad they were that I posted before about my family issues, so I figured this post would have been more light on the subject, but I guess it was just too much!!! Oh well, thanks for listening anyway. Even though no one was moved to comment, I hope someone got something out of it. Have a superb Friday, folks; I know I am going to try to.

it may be old news; but it’s GOOD news!

Yes, I know you all know that Jake was nominated for the supporting Oscar for Brokeback Mountain, but I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t say it one more time: JAKE WAS NOMINATED!!! Woo Hoo! Now, he is now and forever going to be “Oscar Nominated Actor, Jake Gyllenhaal” (if not Oscar winning actor… fingers crossed!); and I didn’t think he could get any sexier. But hell YEAH, he just did!

Also, Brokeback pretty much takes the cake: Best Actor (Heath Ledger), Best Supporting Actor (Jake Gyllenhaal), Best Supporting Actress (Michelle Williams), Cinematography, Director (Ang Lee), Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, AND Best Picture. That’s 8 Nominations bitches; it has got to win at least some. Shove that in your bonnet Christian Right… us gays are moving in and having sex on the mountain. Take it in… take it all in. The homosexualization of America marches proudly on!

I for one, am pulling for you Jake!!! Kiss! Kiss!

for friday: a window inside my head (bonus: Jake!)

I don’t know what is wrong with me today (maybe it is because it is the 13th, or something), but I really am so bored and scatterbrained, that I cannot think of any coherent and meaningful thing to write about. So I’ll hit you with a random sampling of things that I have been thinking about today:

– I really want a new job. Maybe I should be an interior designer. No, seriously. (There are times that I actually do have to try and convince myself that something is a good idea. Sometimes, this is not easy.)
– Why can’t I win the lottery; then I wouldn’t have to worry about that job thing? Then, I could just hang out all day. And drive a Mercedes. Oh yeah… a Mercedes. (I love my car, but I do find myself thinking about Mercedes Benzes a lot. Perhaps I was a rapper in another life.)
– I hate the crap on TV and in the movies. I know that I have a thousand stories that are just as good. Why don’t I write them up already?! (This is more of me trying to convince myself to do something. But I am also good at convincing myself to procrastinate, so let’s see who wins the cock fight.)

congrats Jake!

I just wanted to take a moment and congratulate Heath, Jake, Michelle, and the entire cast for their 4 Screen Actor’s Guild award nominations! That gives me the opportunity to make this awesome Friday even more awesome; by giving me an excuse to post one the cutest Jake photos of all time! Here’s hoping they win!

Oh, and Jake, I am free to go up to Brokeback anytime. Let me know what your schedule is like. (James would come too…)

[awesome Jake image from iheartjakemedia.com]

Songs for the day:
Peter Presta – Totally Hooked (this is so hot for me right now)
Sara Bareilles – Undertow
James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover

jake watch: countdown to brokeback

Hey bitches, I just wanted to pepper your Saturday (or what’s left of it) with some fantastical news: Jakeypoo and hunky Heath are on the cover of the newest issue of Entertainment Weekly for Brokeback Mountain. Now, I think that this is pretty awesome, considering that the movie is a gay love story between something so all American that it is begging for a backlash; but hopefully, this may be a sign of little or no lashing. I think that it is momentous that this movie is getting so much attention (they gave it an A!!), and hopefully, it will show that gay men are just normal people that can feel and express love, and it is just as, if not more, profound and deep that heterosexuals. As I was reading the article, I must say that I did find one thing quite disconcerting; in the beginning intro, they describe the two actors as “putting their careers on the line” to be in this movie. I thought that it was the challenge and DUTY of anyone that wants to call themselves and actor/actress, to take on challenging roles and prove that they can convince us they are indeed someone that they are not. It is their job to show us a different side of themselves, and embrace something that may or may not be true about them. They are meant to play characters, and however challenging they may be, it is their obligation to do so; if they be actors at all. I just find it insulting that someone would consider this a potential “career-ender” to play gay. Why? The characters are not coming out in real life (although, that shouldn’t be a career ender either, but I do live in the real world, and I do realize that it would possibly happen). Jake and Heath are just as straight as they were before making this movie; so why should showing that they can take on a challenge be a possible career-ending move? I say that is complete rubbish, and I also don’t understand how something that gains this much praise could be considered bad.

I know for a fact that coming out and being gay, as well as just playing gay, commands a great deal of courage; and I wish upon wish that those that make statements like this about anyone that attempts to put themselves out there and show that they understand and possibly identify with our way of life could understand and at least respect everything that we go through. Have a freaking heart; we go through this persecution all of the time, and sometimes, we don’t give a damn about making everyone else happy, sometimes it is just enough to make yourself happy, and I don’t think that anyone should ever be punished for that; even someone that is willing to portray us on the screen. I would like to think and believe that we, as a society have more compassion than to persecute and punish those that are true to themselves, as well as those that step out there and try to represent us.

And with that, we begin the Brokeback countdown. I seriously can’t wait. Don’t worry Jake and Heath, when you get your Oscar nods, you can site this ugly “career-ending” nonsense as what it is, utter bullshit, and slam that in their faces. YEAH!
