the 31 best of 2007 – 10: Paramore – Riot!

I can’t believe it. We have made it to the top ten. Holy musical countdown Batman! Only nine more to go, kids!

Now, let’s get to my number 10 selection, the AMAZING second album by the pop/rock outfit Paramore, Riot!.Paramore fall into that category of groups that I had never heard of, but because they were mentioned somewhere, I felt compelled to check them out; and I have to say, I have damn good instincts. From the first energetic riff on their CD Riot!,and throughout the rest of the disc, Paramore take on the pop/punk/emo scene, and perform a fucking SHOW. Seriously, if you can sit still, and not want to jump up and down and have a good time listening to this record, you should probably check to make sure that you have a pulse.

This CD is not only a fantastic example of music done right, but it is also a breath of fresh air from an up and coming artist; it doesn’t surprise me that Paramore were nominated in the Best New Artist category for this year’s Grammys. They have spunk, attitude, flavor, and a kick ass sound that really bring the whole “emo-pop-punk-rock” music scene to a head. Fronted by an energetic female vocalist, these kids are doing what some of those other similar male fronted rock bands dream of; making the music fun at the same time they are making it good.

I have to say, that I only had to listen to this CD one time, before I knew it would be on my year end list; it is a solid disc throughout every song. There are a couple of songs that you could label as “ballads”, but even those have a backbone, and don’t mumble their feelings to you. This is one of those records that I can put on, and if I am in a foul mood, my feelings instantly change for the better; Paramore really now how to control their sound and make energetic and fantastic rock music.

Another thing that I LOVE about this CD, is that there are more than a few songs that you can literally just listen to on repeat, because they are so good. Take their most current single, Crushcrushcrush for instance; the first time I heard that song, I played it a good eight time in a row, and I still can’t get enough of it. Paramore really gets under your skin on Riot!, and they force you to have a great time, by bringing a great rock album for your ears to enjoy. This is a group that you should definitely keep an eye on, because they are going to be HUGE.

Yay! It’s Friday; which means it’s time for your Five Song Friday!

Let’s do this!

Paramore – crushcrushcrush

First up today is the amazing song by the amazing group Paramore, crushcrushcrush. I fell in love with their album after only one listen, and this song remains one of my favorite songs that I have heard all year. This song definitely gets you moving, and keeps the energy up! This is one that you should add to your workout mix, because it will definitely get you pumped. If you like this track, I highly suggest you check out Riot! by Paramore; a fantastic album, and one of my favorites so far from this year!

Rihanna – Please Don’t Stop The Music
I have to say, I really resisted liking Umbrella at first, but now I realize how awesome of a song it really is. Additionally, upon my initial listen to Rihanna’s CD, I was really not that interested in hearing what she had to offer, but after seeing the video for this song, it has definitely given me reason to sit up and take another listen. This song is a great dance song, and really makes me want to get up and do just that; dance! Rihanna definitely has some great singles up her sleeve!

Now , the final three will be in the new format; video-less songs!! (IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE VIDEO-LESS SONG FORMAT: If you are reading this post through a feed-reader, I am pretty sure the songs will not show up; the player I use is an embedded flash player. Come to the site to check out the songs!) I seriously think that I am going to have to switch exclusively to this format eventually, because of the stupidity that record companies continue to exhibit on you tube by disabling embedding on their videos. I mean seriously, what is the big deal? Wouldn’t it make sense for MORE people to see it? What idiots. Either way, here are the rest of your Friday song selections…

Sara Bareilles – Love Song
[audio:http://www.duanemoody.com/audio/fsf_1019_lovesong.mp3]
I have loved Sara for a long time now, and I was super excited when she released her major label debut back in July. The entire CD is perfection, and it leapt back into my top rotation this week when I got an email from Sara, letting me know about the debut of the video for Love Song. While the video isn’t on you tube yet (hence the lack of it being used here), I was compelled to present the song, as I love it so much. Also, if you are curious to see the video, where you get to see how amazingly stunning Sara is, here’s a link. (BTW, this may just be my favorite song of the year!)

Hem – The Part Where You Let Go
[audio:http://www.duanemoody.com/audio/fsf_1019_partletgo.mp3]
This song is actually a song that is featured in an insurance ad, but I never saw the ad before I heard it. I found out about it from an iTunes “feature” where they listed a bunch of songs that were used in ads and stuff; and I am glad that I checked out that feature. Hem’s sound is beautiful and acoustic, and this song is one of those ones that makes you feel warm and happy inside. I can see how it is perfect for the ad, but I am just glad that I went the next step and downloaded it, so I could enjoy the whole song. The EP that this song is from is actually quite excellent as well.

Feist – How My Heart Behaves

[audio:http://www.duanemoody.com/audio/fsf_1019_heartbehaves.mp3]
I may be laying it on a little thick with Feist, but I swear, the more I listen to her CD, the more I love. Her voice is so amazingly angelic and piercing at the same time, that it really moves me. This song is from the same album as 1234, but this song is by far my favorite on the record. I generally have to listen to this song 2 or 3 times each time I listen to her CD, because it is so beautiful and perfect. I LOVE this song, and it makes me feel amazing. If you want to hear a perfect song, look no further, it is here with Feist’s How My Heart Behaves.

Well, there’s another version of Five Song Friday for you guys! I hope that you enjoy this installment as much as I have! I also hope that everyone has a great weekend, and as always, if you are interested in obtaining these tracks for your very own, YOU HAVE TO LET ME KNOW. Otherwise, jog on, bitches! HA!

Final, unrelated note, this just makes me laugh. You get what you deserve, bigotsassholes.

is APWBWGTTD dead? and listen to this!

First of all, tonight was supposed to be the monthly meet up of the APWBWGTTD, which has been a monthly tradition for more than a year now, and unfortunately, due to only one other potential attendee, I have decided to cancel it. So what does this mean for the future of APWBWGTTD? Well, you tell me. Do you want this monthly Atlanta blogger meet up to continue? Do you wish to see it resurrected in a different venue, on a different day, or under different circumstances? Now is your chance to chuck in your two cents on the whole thing, because we are literally marching towards the funeral here, and if you want to save it, you have to speak up. I for one am kind of sad that it might potentially be over, because I have made some amazing friends through these meet ups, and have always looked forward to them.

Many people complained about Manuel’s being the regular spot for the meet ups, but no one suggested different places. If this was your barrier, please, suggest somewhere new, or suggest some ideas for what you would like to see, in order to participate in future meet ups. Also, there was always talk of people’s schedules being too full, and being unable to meet up, and I understand that this will always be an issue; so how about suggesting some alternatives to the current one meet up, one time, plan? Would it be better to have two meet ups a month on different nights? Would it be better on the weekend? Let me know what you guys think.

I for one, hope that we can do some CPR on our dying friend, and save our APWBWGTTD, because I would honestly be sad to see it pass away. Since today was the day our meet up was scheduled, today is a good day to get to talking about planning the future of APWBWGTTD. Speak up please!!

Also, I just got the new CD Riot!, by the group Paramore, and I cannot stop listening to it! It is fantastic!!! It is like a little bit Weezer, with some Letters to Cleo, and a little of the type of rock those other All American Rejects-type bands churn out, peppered on the top. The lead singer also gives it a feel of Shiny Toy Guns, who are a band that everyone who listens to me, knows I freaking ADORE. The whole CD is a great listen, and is full of energy, and great songs. I rarely run out and buy a CD after checking it out initially, but this one is a definite exception! Be sure to check out my favorites: That’s What You Get, crushcrushcrush (OMG SO GOOD!), and, well I like them all, but these I listen to repeatedly. Now, go out and get it, and have some fun; I know I am! Apparently, there is a video too, so check it out!
