tv collections/documentaries
- 30 Rock Season One
— Simply stated, 30 Rock is one of the funniest shows ever.
- 30 Rock Season Two
— Simply stated, 30 Rock is one of the funniest shows ever.
- 30 Rock Season Three
— Seriously, this show gets better and better with each season. It will have you Lizzing!!
- 30 Rock Season Four
— Love this show!
- Alias: Season One
— This show makes me want to be a CIA operative. This show is also my favorite show. I first started watching this show recently, and was bummed that I missed out on the first couple of seasons. Well, luckily, I got this first season as a Christmas gift, and needless to say, it has made my month!! This show is so amazing. It helps that it is produced by the same guy that did Felicity. I will definitely be getting season 2. I want to fly all over the world in secret disguise just to kick some ass and come home for a new assignment. AWESOME! Love this show.
- Alias: Season Two
— My name is Sydney Bristow, and I am a double agent working for the CIA, posing as an agent for what I thought was a secret black ops division of the CIA known as SD-6. If you have no idea what this means, then that means you need to start with season one. I have seen all of both seasons, and let me tell you, the drama and action are just as intense with every new episode. I really enjoy how this show revels in the cliffhanger, leaving the viewer salivating for more. Bring me Sydney Bristow, NOW! Feel the excitement, dance the dance of life with me.
- Alias: Season Three
— Okay, you should all know by know, that Alias is definitely my favorite show. Hands down, this show gets better as time goes on. I would think that the Rambaldi thing would have gotten old, but they always find some way to make it more fresh and interesting each episode. I got this DVD set from my good friend Daphne, for my birthday, and I am so happy to have it. I absolutely love this show, and I know that I will get tons of enjoyment reliving season three over again! YEAH!
- Alias: Season Four
— Not my favorite season, but it was totally worth it for the last few episodes of the season. That finale kicked serious ass.
- Alias: Season Five
— This is the final season of my beloved Alias, but, all things must come to an end, and good things must follow those rules. It really is too bad, because this season started off great, and only got better, which made me wonder why they just called it quits. Either way, the series finale was so awesome, that it almost makes you want to forget that it is the end. Either way, I can enjoy the whole series now, again, and again. And I will.
- American Dad: Vol. 1
— While it doesn’t pack the punch Family Guy does, it certainly packs a comedy wallop. If you like Family Guy, you will like this show; it is by the same people. Great premise, with just the right amount of political commentary.
- Broadway: The American Musical
— A really long and in-depth view on the history of Broadway. There are several performances captured in this series, and they even chronicle, dare I say it… WICKED! The additional scenes include an in-depth description and performance of “For Good”. Love it!
- Battlestar Glactica: Season One HD
— I really found myself sucked into the cult greatness of the re-do of Battlestar Glactica. This show is such a guilty pleasure, and it is nice to have the full season to watch in HD.
- Cave Of Forgotten Dreams 3D BR
— I am a huge cultural history buff; after all, I have a masters in Anthropology for crying out loud. This is a documentary about the Chauvet cave in France, which was discovered in 1994, and just so happens to have the oldest known human cave paintings, dating back 30,000 years. The documentary takes a 3D look into the cave, and the result is a stunning look back in human history. The paintings are humbling, and visually striking; it is truly something to behold. I saw the documentary without the 3D, and I can definitely say that the 3D adds an element that must NOT be missed; it truly brings the cave to life. This is why 3D is such an innovative and amazing form of cinema; this is a MUST see.
- Dark Angel: Season One
— It had a little bit of a slow start, but I really got into the whole “post-apocalyptic” feel of the show. It is also a treat to see Jessica Alba as the kick ass, genetically enhanced Max, who seriously carries the show. If you are looking for an enjoyable action show, with a little bit of sci-fi mixed in, check out Dark Angel… I know that I am enjoying it.
- Doctor Who Series 1
— The season that re-started it all, this is the first series, where the doctor, played by Christopher Eccelston, who, as e 9th doctor, finds a companion in the incomparable Rose. This season not only reintroduced the series, but it revamped and reinvigorated it. This season is magnificent, and was the beginning of something truly brilliant.
- Doctor Who Series 2
— This season introduced us to the 10th and probably the most popular doctor to date, played by David Tennant, who again travels through space and time with the amazing Rose. This is one of those shows that you don’t think they can top, and then bam! They do. Another amazing season for sure.
- Doctor Who Series 3
— This season sees a new companion, and more amazing adventures. This season was more intense and scary, showing that the show was not afraid to push the boundaries, yet again. Still one of the best shows ever made.
- Doctor Who Series 4
— Another new companion, and the final season of the 10th doctor, this season definitely is full of tear jerkers. Old companions return, and the fate of the doctor is challenged yet again. A very camp, yet melancholy season for the doctor and his crew.
- Doctor Who Series 5 BR
— Ever since the first season of the “new” Doctor Who, I have love, love, loved this show. This is the beginning of the 11th Doctor, played by the excellent Matt Smith, and introduces a new companion on Amy Pond. They managed to take the mythology and the story of the Doctor in even more interesting and interwoven directions. This show is one of the best written on TV today, and I am glad to finally have this set in my collection!
- Doctor Who Series 6 BR
— This season carries on with the 11th Doctor, and Amy’s fiance Rory joins as a full time companion as well. As expected, the adventure is always dangerous, captivating, and this show continues to highlight why it is one of my favorites. Again, one of the most well written shows on TV today. I love Doctor Who!
- Doctor Who Series 7 Part One and Part Two BR
— This is the first season that I waited until I got the blu ray to see, who knows why. I avoided spoilers, and I know that there is a lot of sad and serious stuff that happens, so I cannot wait to watch it; I know I will love it. I bought it in two parts because they were on a very deeply discounted sale, and I couldn’t wait any longer (especially knowing that the full season is going to cost like $80!!). Glad I finally picked it up!
- Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor 3D BR
— David Tennant and Matt Smith together in one special, that is in 3D? What’s not to love?
- Doctor Who: The End of Time Parts One and Two BR
— This is an EXCELLENT story/special featuring the 10th doctor, and one of his absolutely worst enemies; the Master. Got this cheap, and I am glad I picked it up; I remember loving this special.
- Fahrenheit 9/11
— Find out the real truth about the Bush family and the Bush administration. Go on, I dare you. They tripple checked the facts in this movie to ensure it was accurate. And it is. It is also very moving, and wonderfully done. Thank you Michael Moore. Thank you for giving us what the media should… the truth.
- Family Guy: Vol. 1
— This is the best animated comedy show ever. Seriously. You can TRY not to wet your pants when you watch it, but if you have a sense of humor you may just go tinkle. “You will erect a statue in the town square…. WE HAVE SPOKEN!” “Peter, do you hear yourself when you talk?” “Eh, I drift in and out.”
- Family Guy: Vol. 2
— Best cartoon show ever. Period. It is also the ONLY SHOW to come back after being cancelled, based solely on DVD sales. Now that is impressive. This show comes on cartoon network almost every night. This DVD set contains the controversial, When You Wish Upon A Weinstein, nice.
- Family Guy: Vol. 3
— All I have to say, is thank God this show is back. Here’s to many more volumes of this fantastic show!
- Family Guy Vol. 4
— Would you expect anything less?
- Felicity Season 1
— Stop Laughing… I love this show. For all intensive purposes, I am Felicity. That is why I love this show. I really cannot say enough about it, so I will just say that it is a show that makes you feel and respond to your emotions. That cannot be bad, can it?? NO!
- Fringe Season 1 BR
— For me, this was definitely the best new show of the 2008 Fall season. This show is interesting, captivating, action packed, and really smart to boot. I love all of the characters, and the way the story leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat. The paranormal element of the show is really intricate, and really captivates you. This is a great show that I couldn’t wait for each new episode, and I can’t wait to see what happens in season 2.
- Nick Frost’s: DANGER! 50,000 Volts!
— I absolutely love Nick Frost, who is about as adorable as they come. In this series, he takes dangerous situations, and shows how they can be deadly, while teaching you how to avoid them, or survive them. The best part, is that he is doing so in a totally mocking and silly way, often at the expense of his unsuspecting “expert adviser”. I think that the writing is a bit spotty at parts, but overall, this is laugh out loud funny, because Nick seriously delivers. I am going to be getting more British television series with the fabulous Nick Frost… this was just the first one that happened to be Region One!
- Frozen Planet BR
— Another series in the Planet Earth series that takes a colder look at the world. It is harrowing to think about the subjects presented, and saddening to think that some of these beautiful creatures may not be here in the future due to climate change. David Attenborough is back, and I couldn’t be happier.
- Game of Thrones Season One BR
— One of the best shows on TV, IMHO. I love this series based on the best selling book series of the same name. The first season introduces us to strong characters, and highlights a rift between families and factions. Be sure, NO ONE is safe!! Excellent television!!
- Game of Thrones Season Two BR
— Oh Renley, I barely knew ye!! Sad! I love this show though, even though they have no qualms killing off your favorite characters. This is one of the more “true to life” fantasy stories, in that no one is safe, just because they are a main character. The drama is tense, the acting brilliant, and the visuals are lush. This is an incredible show!
- Game of Thrones Season Three BR
— Holy fucking shit; The Red Wedding episode was EPIC, unexpected, and heartbreaking!! If for nothing else, that episode makes this a must have! The rest of the season was amazing television as well, again, confirming this as one of my most favorite shows.
- Grey Gardens/The Beals of Grey Gardens
— Fascinating simply because of how eccentric these two ladies were. It does make me feel a little guilty watching them, and getting some sort of pleasure out of that, though.
- Gummy Bears: Volume 1, Seasons 1-3
— This was one of my favorite shows growing up, and I was so happy to see it come to DVD. My only disappointment lies in the transfer quality; it is pretty bad. I wonder what happened Disney?
- Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List Season 1
— Wow, what can I say about Kathy, other than I freaking LOVE HER??? Seriously, she is a total laugh riot, and always has the ability to send me straight into stitches. I love her show, and am so glad that it finally came to DVD so that I could go back and watch at a whim. This season also contains the stand up special “Kathy Griffin is not Nicole Kidman”, which is hilarious. I am glad to add this to my library!!
- Heroes: Season One HD
— Holy cow! It is so rare when a show this good comes along, and it actually gets backed by the channel it comes on!!! I was at the edge of my seat each week waiting for my Heroes fix, and I couldn’t wait to get it on DVD! If you love comic book type movies as much as I do, you will love this show; it combines the superpowers with the conspiracy and intrigue that make comic movies so good. Throw in a villain, and you are all set! I can’t wait for season two!
- Heroes: Season Two
— I ended up getting Season Two, because it was so long because of the writer’s strike, that I forgot some of the plot elements from this very short, but very good season. I’m glad to have this gem in my collection.
- Human Planet BR
— This is a cultural human series from the people that did Planet Earth, Life, and Frozen Planet; hell yes! Gorgeous documentary series that is every anthropologist’s dream. Seriously!
- Hyperdrive
— A hilarious space romp of a comedy from Nick Frost, this is kind of like Star Trek with a sense of humor. Well done, and quite funny, I definitely enjoyed every episode of this show. I just wish they were longer!!! This show is a great example of why I am glad I have a region free player; so I can import these goodies from the UK!
- Invasion
— I should have known: whenever I really fall for a show, it gets canceled. This show was no exception. It was a great concept; sort of invasion of the body-snatchers type plot, but with more natural and unnatural phenomena going on. You will be pulling for the characters you like, and hating the “bad guys”. I was sad to see this show canceled, because it had just started to get really interesting, and I was really excited to see where it was going to go, and then bam! Canceled. Oh well… at least I can enjoy it on DVD!
- Kitchen Confidential: The Complete Series
— I still can’t get over that this show was canceled after only a few episodes aired. It is seriously funny, well written, and well made. I loved every single episode of this series, and I am just sad that there isn’t more to be had. At least I get to enjoy it on DVD; which was honestly a blessing, because there are more than twice the amount of aired episodes on this collection to enjoy! Definitely good television that wasn’t allowed to shine.
- Life BR
— It pretty much is Planet Earth 2. That being said, it is gorgeous, and the visuals as stunning. They definitely kept the quality at the same level as they did with Planet Earth. As with Planet Earth, there were two versions, one narrated by David Attenborough, and one narrated by someone else (in this case, Oprah). While I would have preferred the Attenborough version, I got such an amazing deal that I settled for the Oprah version (which is what I saw when I watched it to begin with anyway). Overall, strikingly beautiful show about life on earth; very enjoyable.
- Mad Men: Season One BR (RP) — We started watching this in its third season, and I wanted to see where it started, since I have been enjoying the third season.
- Mercy: The Complete Series
— I started watching this forever ago on netflix, and then they took it off before I could finish. I saw it cheap on amazon, and indulged. It is a GREAT show about nurses, and one that is packed full of incredible talent. I wish it could have found it’s niche, because this show should have lasted longer than one season. I do have a habit of pointing out the medical inconsistencies though… but hey, that’s going to happen with any show about a job that I do every day.
- Planet Earth HD BR
— THIS is what HD was invented for. This striking and amazing series explores the planet earth like I have never seen before, and David Attenborough’s soothing narration has me watching this over and over again. If you had NO other high definition DVDs in your collection (HD DVD or Blu Ray), you MUST have this set. It is immensely entertaining, and I learned a lot about our amazingly beautiful planet.
- Prison Break: Season One
— I got a hell of a deal on this ($10!!!!), so I went ahead and picked it up. I am really glad I did, too, because this season was fantastic. It also gave us the background that we were missing, and we can’t wait to pick up season two in the near future. Great show.
- Prison Break: Season Two
— Another great deal came along right after we watched season one on DVD, and I wanted to see the rest of the episodes we had missed, so I had to get it. This show is fast paced, and full of drama and action. This season is where you get to know more about the characters, and it was really great.
- Pushing Daises: Season One
— I remember hearing about this show, and being very excited, only to be blown away by the pilot. I also remember what I said after watching it… This show is too good, too smart, and too well done to last. Well, much to my surprise, they turned out an AMAZING first season, and were even picked up for a second. However, I was right in the end, because it got canceled before the second season even finished. Why they are always doing that to brilliant shows like this one is clearly beyond me.
- Queer as Folk Season 1
— Groundbreaking television, even if it was cable television, and naked men??? YES! This is a great show, and it takes a very candid and sweeping look at gay life in the case of a group of friends. Not all gay people are like this, but a lot of them would pretend that they aren’t, when they actually are.
- Rome Season One and Two
— I loved this show, and finally found a deal for it online; the DVDs were hella expensive. It is a VERY well done show telling the history of Rome right around the time of Caesar’s death. Also, Titus Pullo = SEXAH, and I want to do naughty, dirty things to him.
- Roswell Season One — Haven’t actually watched it yet, but I heard good things, so I nabbed the DVD set on a sale at Best Buy.
- SNL: Best of ’06-07
— I think that this was a special or something, because I saw it at Starbucks, and I ended up getting it much cheaper online. I have to say, that just for the opening sequence with Jack Gyllenhaal singing “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls, this is a must own.
- Silverhawks: Volume One
— Partly metal… partly real! Dude, I was a major fan of the Silverhawks when I was a little boy, and when I saw that they released it on DVD I HAD to have it. It’s cheesy as all fuck, but it is fun and nostalgic!
- Spaced: The 3 Disc Collectors Edition
— A true testament of hilarity from British television. It is the brain-child of my favorite Simon Pegg, along with Jessica Hynes and Edgar Wright, and shows many of the pre-cursor brilliance that would later be expanded for Shaun of the Dead. This is not only a hilarious show, but one of sheer entertainment. This is a must have in any serious British comedy fan’s collection. Fuck yeah, boy!
- Summer Heights High
— Chris Lilley is a motherfucking genius. This show is all kinds of hilarious, and totally inappropriate 98% of the time. This is one of those shows I randomly found myself watching, and ended up loving it; so naturally, I HAD to get the DVD when it hit stores. If you are a fan of REAL comedy genius, then you probably already know about this show.
- Torchwood: Season One
— After watching the new Dr. Who, and becoming a MAJOR fan, I had to check out this little “spin off” program with the hotter than hot Captain Jack Harkness. Well, I am glad that I tuned in, because this quickly became another amongst my favorite shows. I had to get season one, especially for the episode where Jack and Jack share that passionate kiss; it is amazing.
- Torchwood: Season Two BR
— Season two saw the development of Jack and Ianto’s relationship; which was a really, really welcome addition to the show. There was a lot of action as always, and even more character development. I was pleased overall with this season, and I was glad that they brought more of Gwen’s man on the scene too… he’s a hottie!
- Torchwood: Children Of Earth BR
— This is definitely some of the strongest, and best material Russell Davies has brought to this series. All five episodes of this “mini season” were jam packed with action, drama, humor, and everything that made me fall in love with Torchwood in the first place. While I don’t want to give it away if you haven’t seen it, there was an incident in episode four that really devastated me, and I really don’t know where the series will go from here as a result; I guess great TV comes at a price sometimes.
- Trauma: Season One
— This show is intense!! After the first couple of episodes, I was hooked. I watched it all on netflix before they took it down. Glad I could pick it up and have it for my collection. Definitely need to re-watch this show about the men and women of the EMS and trauma services!
- We Know Where You Live (REMIX!)
— I’ll openly admit; I bought this because Simon Pegg was in it. That being said, it is a really random comedy show that does have its moments, but unfortunately, those moments are few and far between. It goes from some very silly and laugh out loud skits to complete over done duds. I will give it another go at some point when I am in the mood to have some randomness to laugh at; overall, a little disappointed, but it is good to see the Pegg nevertheless.
- Worst Week: The Complete Series
— Kyle Bornheimer is absolutely adorable as the boyfriend that can’t do anything right in the eyes of his in-laws; mostly because he is basically a walking disaster, leaving destruction and mayhem in his wake. The gags are hilarious, and his unfortunate sense of luck and lack of coordination lead to several laugh out loud scenarios that make it even more surprising that this show didn’t last longer than the several episodes contained on this DVD. I am glad that I discovered this show, and only wish there could have been more episodes to enjoy.
