- Across the Universe
— For this movie, they take classic Beatles songs, and rework them, in order to help tell the story of a group of friends; and specifically, the love that blossoms between Lucy and Jude. While I absolutely LOVE some of the versions of the Beatles songs that they reworked for this film, parts of it were a bit disjointed, and overall, it was fun to watch, but some parts could have been left out. The scene where they did Let it Be is emotional and moving, and makes you really wonder if that song was meant to be a gospel song all along. Amazing. - Chicago
— WOW! Everyone knows this was the movie of the year… WORK IT! I cannot personally think of any other place where killing someone could be so glamorized. It makes me want to dance, and wear fabulous outfits while doing it… really. My favorite song/scene is “We Both Reached For The Gun”. That was great! - Dreamgirls
— If for nothing other than the 5 or 6 minutes that Jennifer Hudson performs “And I’m Telling You”, this movie will always be tops in my book. What a performance. I had chills all over when I saw this in the theater, and I ended up even liking Beyonce!!! This is a must see if you love musicals, and even more so, if you love DIVAS. These bitches SANG this one, ya’ll!!! - Hairspray
— I REALLY wanted to love this movie, but alas, there is one HUGE stinker that pops up throughout the movie that just brings the whole thing down; his name is John Travolta! I would have loved this movie if it weren’t for him. Oh well, at least there is one huge thing going for this musical; Nikki Blonski is FLAWLESS, and I just love her! - Hedwig and the Angry Inch
— My sex change operation got botched, and now I’m left with a barbie doll crotch? Yes please! This movie ROCKS! I saw it performed live too, and it was amazing then as well! I want you to become a Hedwig fanatic… most people that have seen it are. There is a good reason for that. - High School Musical
— Disney really delivers with this one; this movie is just a feel good musical about being yourself, and going after your dreams (no matter what anyone else thinks). I seriously think that this may be this generations answer to Grease, and it is pulled off with a great cast, a great story, and great music. A definite good time. - Moulin Rouge
— This is probably in my top 5 favorite movies… Didn’t really care for Nicky Kidman before this, but now I LOVE HER. Ewan takes me breath away, and I really want to be the one dancing with him in the clouds. I love the energy of this movie… Baz, you are a genius! (or a big fag) Either way, let’s have a gay old time! - The Producers
— Campy musical goodness about producers trying to put on a flop, in order to rob the investors of their investments. Hilarity ensues! Make it gay, make it gay, make it gay!!! - RENT
— I wrote an in depth review of this, which can be found on the blog. Given all of its criticisms (it was choppy, may have tried a little TOO hard), I must say that I think that this is a truly wonderful translation of a great story, from stage to screen. The characters gain a new three dimensional quality, and all of the songs are polished and cleaned up for the better. I waited so long for this one, and it certainly was worth the wait. This movie just wants you to take it for what it is… greatness. - Rocky Horror Picture Show
— I’m just a Sweet Transvestite from transsexual, Transylvania. So come up to the lab. And see what’s on the slab. I see you shiver with antici… pation! Oh yeah.
