Great post Duane. I read it yesterday I believe, and this morning while playing Vogue I had to think of it again.

It's interesting. For a whole new generation, love of Britney and Lady Gaga are the barometers for homosexuality. And you love them both without question. Just imagine the kind of Madonna fan you'd be if she had come out later (or you had come out sooner).

And if you ever need a lesson in the brilliance that is Madonna (and I'm not just talking the singles), you know where to go!

@John: yeah, I agree; the part where Rich laid it out how Madonna is a little late with the trends was spot on. Still, to blame her solely for it would be wrong, because almost every American artist seems to rest soundly on those laurels. Thanks for the kind words about the post!

@RWBB: I tell myself that I don't care, but I know that there is a part of me that definitely does. I just need to figure out a way to silence that voice; instead of unsuccessfully trying to ignore it. And nice use of phrase... it's like that scene in Moulin Rouge!

Though sometimes things go better when i hide it, my typical mindset is that of not caring what straight people think of me. (For example, I don't waste my nice clothes at work. I save those for my off hours.)

But I understand the trauma you had to deal with. It's hard to shake off stuff like that. Maybe you could try to start all over, like a virgin, for the very first time.

Or you could feel the way you do because everything she's done recently has felt so calculated. Just sayin'.

I wrote a similar post recently, but it wasn't nearly as eloquent as yours or Rich's. I had bookmarked his entry, and I was going to mention it, but you've created a much better epilogue.

Dear Duanely,

I love you!!! (and I love Madonna). I love this post. I love reading about YOU (not just what music you like). And I'm working on my list of songs for you. :)

Love,
ETK
