I find it funny that this is still extremely relevant even three years later. I went to our local Ace hardware yesterday (before reading your post) to buy whatever would fit these stupid hoses. I merely had to say the words "Ikea faucet" and the manager handed me everything I needed. Love them! Ikea does boggle the mind sometimes.

THANK YOU for posting this! I have the exact IKEA facet for my bathroom update and am having the same issue. I just left LOWE'S, frustrated, and headed to the web. I found your solution, and am feeling much better. Tomorrow I will head to ACE Hardware (ironically walking distance from where I live) to pick up the necessary facet adapter.

Shows how to hook-up an Ikea faucet/sink to a standard US 3/8" water supply line.
Ikea's faucet is actually delivered with a 1/2" connector (not metric). You will need a simple short 1/2" x 1/2" brass nipple between the Ikea faucet and a standard supply line (1/2"FIP x 3/8" compression). That it.

See it at:
https://picasaweb.google.com/wilfridvinson/IkeaFaucetInstallation?authuser=0&feat=directlink

For the drain, you may need 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" adapter. Ikea is delivered with 1 1/4" drain system.

Good solution. A friend, who grew up on a farm and knows everything mechanical, supplied this solution:
https://picasaweb.google.com/115265029093727204880/Mar302011#

This arrangement avoids the need to have two lengths of supply tube. I agree, you can find these parts at a hardware.

Wow that is a relief. After four trips to my local Home Depot and insane attempts to adapt incompatible fittings you had the answer all along. What is most upsetting is that for $1 or $2 more Ikea could thoughtfully include these adapters.

Lesson learned: When looking for solutions start with Google.

Thank you!

So I glad I found this web page. I should have known to check the web before Home Depot. The guy at Home Depot spent about an hour looking for fittings and cussing about Ikea to then suggest I spend 60 dollars on Shark Bite fittings and have me cut all of my copper pipes and create a huge valve mess. And his words, "this is 21st century" referring to Shark Bite. Forget that.

Also found this site

I'm off to get a couple adapters.

Thanks a lot for posting this.

Don't buy faucets from Ikea! Ian's question is really good. I have an Ikea faucet, which I did not install, and the cartridge (the inner part) has gone bad. Happens in all faucets but Ikea does not sell parts for any of their products after 90 days. Do other brands of cartridges fit into an ikea faucet?

@JOSH.
Perfect solution. The compression rubber ring from my old faucet hoses fit perfectly inside the ikea hoses. And when I connected the two 1/2" male to 1/2" male "cuplings" with the compression rubber rings inserted in place of the ikea rubber rings - voila! No more leaks and a working sink. Thanks to all (and you!) for these informative blog responses.

@ALL
A compression rubber ring is more "dome-shaped" with a hole at top of the "dome" and flat on the other end vs. the ikea (and other) rubber rings discussed on this issue, that are "flat" with a whole in the center.
