waving goodbye to a decade

Today, I wave goodbye to my twenties…

In my twenties, here’s just a few of the things that happened:

  • I came out.
  • I got two degrees.
  • I fell in love (a few times).
  • I got engaged (to the most recent, and most important love).
  • I bought a house.
  • I got a dog.
  • I got a real job, more than once.
  • I got lots of tattoos.
  • I fought depression.
  • I learned how to deal with my family; learning which ones to keep close (those that mean the most, who have always stood by me; like my cousin and grandma), and which ones I unfortunately have been forced to let go of.
  • I learned a lot more about what is really important in life.
  • I left the state I grew up in, and made a life somewhere else.
  • I made a lot of friends, many of which I know I will remain friends with for life.
  • I traveled to other parts of the world.
  • I went back to school… again.
  • I grew up.

Wow… it seems like I did a bunch of cool stuff in my twenties… but I am sure that my thirties are going to be jam packed with new adventures and “achievements” as well. I turn thirty tomorrow, so I can’t wait to see what this next decade has in store for me. As Captain Picard would say (nerd alert!)… set a course, number one… now, engage… thirties, here I come!

Wow Duane. That’s alot. Very impressive. About to turn 40. Wish I could say 1/4 of the things you listed for my 30′s. You have so much to be thankful for. Congrats!

Love ya Cuz – but you forgot one important thing on that list of yours….US

I’ve known you all 29 years and 364 days of your life and I love you as much today as I did the day you were born. I knew all along how you would turn out and I’ve had the joy of watching you grow into your true self. I’m really sorry that I was not there for you when you needed me the most – not that you would have allowed me the opportunity to help you – but I’m here for you now and always will be!!

Now add me to that list before I fly to Atlanta and hurt you and Happy Birthday!!!0

I hit 30 in November. People tell me 31 is the worst. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!

    Happy birthday…

Happy Birthday!! Even though I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you yet, I just wanted to wish you a great birthday. Hope you get all of your birthday wishes. My list for the twenties is strangely similar to yours as well. Just need to get a tattoo and buy a house in the next two years. happy birthday!

Thanks everyone!! Wendy, I edited my family comment to reflect how important you are to me. Seriously, I will shout that from the rooftops ANYTIME!!! I guess I just feel like you have been important for longer than ten years; even though we have gotten closer, and that has been a HUGE piece of my 20s; for which I am eternally grateful! Also, don’t tempt me with a threat to come down here… you KNOW that is is something I want!! Love you so much cuz!

The 30′s really are a good time, despite my getting depressed over it. I was told how wrong I was and eventually found out for myself. The 30′s greatly surpass the 20′s. So DO look forward to it!

Happy Birthday, all the way from The Netherlands!

You’ve done a lot during your 20s to be proud of. Make yourself proud again of your 30s, when you reach 40!

Happy Birthday Duane! I really liked my thirties. And the forties are not too bad, so far! Have a great time, whatever you decide to do on your special day!

I dig 30s, personally. I worked out a lot of kinks in my 20s. (My remaining kinks are highly enjoyable.)

Love you Duane Carson Moody!!! Have a great day and make your thirties all about making up for what you missed in your 20′s. Like being in a boy band or meeting Brisney Spears.
