Yes I was glued to the set the past couple of weeks. I have been killing myself to stay up some nights just to see the girls compete. I must say that I am a little jaded at the fact that there is so much controversy around the ages of these chinese athletes. I read tonight where they have found more evidence that He is not the "legal" age to compete. Is that America being a sore loser? I don't know. But I will say this, the rules are set to make every thing fair.... But when you have a government that has the power and the ability to tell you when you were born it makes you wonder. In the end, I hope that the truth prevails and everyone is treated accordingly. I must say that Nastia handled the situation like a very mature competitor and I am still in awe of her composure, YOU GO GIRL!

Yeah.. at first, I thought "well surely they can explain what happened and it will all make sense." but no. They explained it... but it didn't make sense.

" The A jury (two judges) calculates the score for difficulty and technical content. Both were given 7.7 start values.

The B jury (six judges) decided the execution score by deducting from the old standard of a perfect 10.

The highest and lowest marks are eliminated, and the score is the average of the four remaining judges. This is then added to the start value. Both gymnasts earned an identical 16.725.

Then the first tie breaker rule was implemented, where an average of the four counting B jury deductions are taken into account for each gymnast. They were still tied.

Then the highest deduction of the four was discarded, and the remaining three were again averaged. This is where He finally sneaked ahead as her average deduction was 0.933 compared with Liukin's 0.966. Understand? Neither did a lot of people."

The important part is the last part... where they threw out the highest deduction. Uh.. Why? So what you're saying is that the worst fuckup in the routine was done by the one who ended up winning the gold medal? O_o

They should have just let it be a tie. Then everyone could have had a gold. I wonder what criteria they used for the tie breaker?

She was probably 10 times older too. :)

Seriously though... you're right, she should have the gold as well. But I think if this had happened in the US of A it might have gone the opposite direction. I wonder how many times that's happened in Olympic history... hmm...
