the cake is a lie

Don’t believe her, the cake is a lie. However, that’s fine with me. I have been playing Portal (from the Orange Box) on Xbox 360, and it is a fantastic game, with cleverly written dialogue from the AI that is there to “assist” you in escaping the lab, named GLaDOS. I haven’t laughed at a game that is clearly trying to kill you before; when you take out the machine-gun wielding robots, they say, “I don’t blame you”. I have heard that it is short (I am taking my time with it), but I hope that they get some downloadable content via Xbox live in the near future; this thing is too good to end!

So yeah, we got an Xbox 360. I have to say, that I never thought myself to be a “gamer” (or gay-mer?), but I am in love with the HD graphics this thing has. I have also shocked myself by really enjoying Halo; which I bought for $10 to see if I would be into it, given the hype. I have to say, I never thought I would like a first person shooter, but Halo is awesome. The back story makes it really interesting. I will be getting Halo 3 when we finish with Halo (unless someone can convince me 3 is worth waiting for to play 2).

Also, Viva Pinata is totally addictive. You have to attract pinatas to your garden, and romance them to make more pinatas. Totally cute, and fun too. Another surprise, actually, as it isn’t the type of game I usually go for. Overall, the Xbox 360 experience has been pretty eye opening, addictive, and fun.

Now I get that wireless internet adapter so I can get online (when it comes back up…)!

Hope everyone is having a great new year so far!

My parents bought me The Orange Box for Xmas. I never even played Half Life 2, so I’m anxious to get it, but I need to finish Assassin’s Creed first. Hope I get through them both before GTA IV comes out, or it may be a while before I play The Orange Box.

I’m a gaymer as well, but I game on my Playstation 3. I really enjoy The Orange Box, but have been playing Teamfortress2 mostly up till now.

Rusty, I have been enjoying Half Life 2 as well. I am glad that there are 3 chapters on one disc!

Steve, I haven’t tried that one, because it looks like you need someone else to play, or online; and I haven’t gotten my adapter yet. Soon!

Portal is short, but good. And once you finish there are bonus challenges on some of the levels. That’s what’s kicking my ass now.

Also, she is in no way trying to help you escape.

GlaDOS, the AI in Portal, is your friend. She only wants to bake you a cake.

Wait … let me rephrase that. She only wants to bake you.

And without revealing too much, I’ll tell you know that the final level/battle of Portal is probably the most satisfying and exhilarating I’ve experienced in years.

Once you’re finished with Portal, move on to Team Fortress 2. The same dark sense of humor runs through TF2, only with less cake.

    John, I know, right!? LOL

Thomas, I will definitely check out TF2. Now I can’t wait to get to the final board in Portal; even more than before!

Awww….you’ve been tempted by the dark side!

I’ve tried hard to get into first person shooters, but they just aren’t that entertaining for me. The first Halo bored me to death.

I do say that I miss some of the better graphics on the Wii, but considering how much I actually play, there is no justification for me to purchase another console. I’m a Nintendo boy anyway, and if I want a fix, I will just play Super Mario 3 or the Virtual Console :)
At least I finally beat Super Mario Galaxy (though 58 more stars before I actually beat the whole thing)
