so shiny, and so wanted!

So today, Mr. Jobs did it again; introducing the ipod touch… and yes, I want it!!!!!!!

But I think that I might wait… I want more than 16gb, after all. However… an ipod with internet?! Sweet! Also, does it take pictures? That would make it perhaps the most perfect piece of technology ever!!! Seriously though, how many of you are going to bite at this? How many of you are going to wait like me??

The only thing I could see getting me to give in is a moment of weakness… hopefully, I won’t have one of those! (because I KNOW that if I were to cave in and get this one, a better one would come out like 2 months later… that always happens to me!)

Also, I found out today that the glorious Pipettes are coming to ATL!!!! The concert is on October 16, at Vinyl, and I am SOOO there! Is anyone else interested in going? The tickets go on sale Friday, so let me know if you are in! I can’t wait to go and “pull shapes” with these lovely ladies! This is going to be an awesome show!

Hope everyone is having a great hump day!

I’m just mad that the new 160 gig classic is now the same price as what I paid for 80 gig 6 months ago. Grrrr! Not that I even need THAT much space, it’s just irritating!

Hmmm, an 8gb iPhone or a 16gb Ipod Touch for $399… Thats the ultimate dilemma, I think I’ll go with the phone, my 60gb video iPod will do for supplemental storage

Greg, if they had the phone for Verizon, I would be in.

ahh well… moot point. Get the touch, you know you’re going to anyways

Multiple people have come up with hacks to the iPhone to unlock it so it can be carried on other carriers… granted, Apple/AT&T are trying to shut them down but it’s only a matter of time until an iPhone will work on any compatible network.

It wont work on Sprint or Verizon, they use CDMA networks instead of GPRS, so only at&t or t-mobile could handle it

Good thing I’m on T-Mobile. I want a Touch (sounds dirty, doesn’t it?) and I want an iPhone… not getting an iPhone until I can use it on my carrier and not sure I’m comfortable with the limited space of a Touch (so so dirty… I love it). What’s a boy to do?

Answer: Wait 3 months when the new iPhones are on every network and the Touch has a hard drive.

Sorry to disappoint but only the iPhone has the camera. I wouldn’t give mine up for the world!

    You are stronger than I.

Course I was already on AT&T.

    Don’t fall for it.

The iPod Touch is simply a neutered iPhone, hence the limited storage capacity. I’m sure some geek will pull an electro-autopsy on one soon enough, but I’d be willing to bet that the innards are all the same, excepting a couple of excised circuits and a missing CMOS chip (for the camera).

Wait it out and give it time. It might be another six months, but it will be worth the delay to see the eventual convergence between the neato-keen features of the Touch and the ever-expanding storage of the Classic.

Because in the long run, the big win will be having your _complete_ media library (music, movies and all) in a single, shiny device.

Yeah, Duane, I’d also recommend waiting. It’s very tempting and cool, but 16GB is not going to cut it. I’ve had a more capacious iPod than that for over 5 years now. I half-considered the Touch for a few minutes, but I just can’t do it knowing that it’s pretty likely they’ll release a 16GB iPhone and/or a hard drive-based Touch within the next year or so. I’ll stick with my 30GB 5g for now and revisit the decision next summer. I’m on Verizon now, and I don’t see the Touch coming to our CDMA neck of the woods anytime soon, but it’s guaranteed that the iPhone will get even cheaper and better over the next year, and it may yet become compelling enough to switch carriers.

    Er, the iPhone, that is…

Thomas and Garrett, you guys are totally dead on… I am definitely going to wait; my video ipod still has plenty of space, and it is only a few months old.
