TIVO HD is here!!! This morning, I was greeted by the sight of a new baby sitting on my porch, as I went out to go to work. I opened the crib, and inside, I found the newest addition to our family!
We welcome you with open arms, our beloved new Tivo. Today is a special day indeed, because even though Tivo HD is a new member of the family, it is almost like we have gotten back an old friend that we have missed for too long. Since the old Tivo wasn’t HD compatible, we had to say our farewells, and now, we are greeted by this new, shiny bundle of joy!!!
Rejoice! For the new technology is here!
I called Comcass(t) to see when I could schedule a cable card “installation”, and I was pleased to find out that I could go and pick up the cards myself; free of charge. If they would have come out, she said they would charge me $30 for EACH CARD. Fuck you ComcASS. Additionally, she wanted to “warn” me, of potential issues and problems associated with the cable cards. She said that first, I wouldn’t be able to order movies directly as I could with Comcass’ shitty DVR, and before she could finish her statement, I said, “I don’t do that”. Then, she started to tell me how the cable cards weren’t as good as the box, because the box is a direct connection or some bullshit. She also had the nerve to tell me that people complained because their cable cards got stuck in whatever they were putting them in. I replied with, “so, is this your way of keeping people stuck with the Comcast box?”. She immediately replied no, but I know that she was thinking the same thing; it is their way of keeping you tied to that shitty DVR.
Well, not for me. I cut off her rants about why the cable cards were bad, and told her, “it doesn’t really matter, because they are coming to my house”. I hung up with her after getting the address of the local Comcass place, and James is going by this afternoon to pick them up. Stay tuned for reports on the baby’s first steps and first words!!
Excitement, ladies and gents! Excitement!

Tivo was the best DVR option that I’ve come across yet. We’ve also had the Moxi (with Charter) - it was by far the worst. Now we have the Foxtel IQ, which isn’t bad, but it has some overheating problems and the interface isn’t as fleshed out and friendly as the Tivo.
WTF? I was told BY COMCAST that I had to have the guy to come out to do the “installation.” Them mailing me the cards or me picking them up were not options. I had to pay the $30. Fucking shit. I worked from home yesterday so that I could be there for the dumbass to come by. When he got there, all he did was slide the cards in (per my instruction) and then he sat there as I did all the configuration on the box.
Fucking lame… I hate ComCast.
WTF? I was told BY TIME WARNER that I had to have the guy to come out to do the “installation.”
anyways, TiVo HD is last weeks news
We’ve been recording Discovery HD like non-stop, loves me some Sunrise Earth
@ dave and greg:
Holy shit! I hope that they don’t renege on that once James gets there! I will be ROYALLY pissed off.
as an aside, we didnt pay for ours, our appointment was originally for Tuesday which they broke, so I called them up say there was no way in hell I was paying $30 after waiting an amount of time that cost me substantially more than $30 by not working
dave, not only did they NOT give us the cards, they took our cable box too! UGH! I HATE COMCAST!!!! I will blog this later, because right now, I am drinkin’.
Similar thing happened to me. After I scheduled my “installation” they shut off my ShitFuck DVR service so no HD or DVR for a couple days until the TiVo got here. Fucking ComCast.
Let me know if you need any help getting the cards setup. It’s kind of a bitch and takes some patience. Write down all the numbers on the cards before inserting them.
I picked one up today on a whim (took advantage of the tax free holiday across the river in VA) and Comcast is supposedly bringing two CableCARDs out on Thursday. The lady on the other end of the phone really knew her stuff… “Oh, you have a TiVo, so you’ll need two cards… yes, I’ll make sure they come out with two cards for you.” She didn’t mention any sort of charge for service call, so if one shows up we’ll have it waived for sure.
::excited::
