some scattered links and thoughts

I have seen some interesting things today, so I thought to myself, “hey, that should be my post!”. So, here are some links to interesting things, and my thoughts on them. I will try not to let this go on too long, but this stuff is quite interesting folks; check it out and feel free to share your opinions as well.

  • We say that we want to rebuild Iraq, stabilize the country, and make it better for the citizens of Iraq, right? Well, why, then, are they suffering from a 60-70% unemployment rate, when our contractors are steadily filling jobs that the citizens themselves could do? If an engineer can’t find a job, there’s a problem. But, we have their best interests at heart, right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
  • Hey intelligent design fanatics, can you please explain the presence of vestigiality, and how it fits within your non-evolutionary explanation of how we got here? mkthxsbbye. Methinks the evolutions are reals, y’all!
  • I have written about global warming before, and one of the biggest arguments presented as evidence that we were not the cause of our current warming trend was the so-called warming of the sun, and its effects on our atmosphere. Turns out, that is wrong, wrong, wrong. Apparently, the sun is actually not warming at all, and temperatures are currently lower because of the sun being in a period of low activity. Interesting. Methinks the humans are causing the global warmings, y’all! Dude, science is fucking awesome, isn’t it!? ;)
  • Apparently, and according to our president, when you get sick, or the fact that you are uninsured, it is your fault. Shame on you for purposefully breaking your arm by falling out of that tree, little Jimmy! You are such a twat, because now it is mommy’s fault that you can’t go to the hospital to get it fixed! Fucking people and their getting sick on purpose. It’s so weird, Mr. president, how we actually do have government medical programs like Medicare and Medicaid that actually work, and could provide those “sick-doers” some coverage; but I guess it is easier to blame people for their problems than it is to actually help them.
  • To piggyback on the last thought, if you really think that there isn’t a problem with the current health care situation, and that the government shouldn’t (or couldn’t) do something about it, be glad that you aren’t this guy; because if you were, you would be in debt up to your eye balls. But then again, I guess it was your fault, right? Ugh. I hate living in this country some times, because people really love to point the finger and place blame without thinking about those that suffer.
  • And finally, this (not sure if it is credible or true, but one can hope) is pretty awesome news: Drinking not only doesn’t kill brain cells, but it may actually be good for you!! Holy shit! Moderate drinking promotes good health! I’m in heaven!!! Who wants to come over and drink some wine?! Woo hoo! *glug glug glug… ah!*
  • UPDATE: I almost forgot to mention it; Sara Bareilles will be performing on Craig Ferguson tonight!! Make sure to catch this performance of this amazing artist! I know I keep going on an on about her, but she is amazing, and there is NO REASON that you should continue to ignore me, and go one more day without hearing her beautiful music, and experiencing her massive talent. Also, don’t forget to get her CD, Little Voice, which is not only MAGNIFICENT, it is out now!!

Well, I tried to keep it short. There it is kids, soak in up, take it in, swish it around a bit, and let me know what YOU think about it. Interesting stuff in the news, I tell ya!

Sweet miracles! I knew somebody someday would prove that drinking alcohol was secretly good for me! It is a glorious day. Cheers.

Oh, and even if that is not credible, I am going to blindly trust what it says.

If man is causing global warming, how come it’s happening on Mars, too?

Apparently, and according to our president, when you get sick, or the fact that you are uninsured, it is your fault.

Where exactly did he say that? I watched all eight minutes and twenty seconds and all I heard him say was that each person should have the tools made available to them so they may more easily be able take responsibility for their own healthcare. I agree. How can you not?

I guess it is easier to blame people for their problems than it is to actually help them.

… just like it’s easier for me to blame others for my problems and ask for a hand out. No, I’m not being ‘all or nothing here.’ I’m trying to point out that the more services you make available for free, the more those services will be abused. Do you know why there are co-pays and deductibles? It’s not so insurance companies can make money, it’s so they can keep people from going to the doctor excessively and keep the cost of your premiums down by keeping their costs down. You start offering free services to everyone and the cost will go up… who’s going to foot that bill? Tax dollars? From who?

people really love to point the finger and place blame without thinking about those that suffer.

Exactly, people want to blame others for their situation and not take responsibility. Hey, I’m sorry people are suffering out there and I have no problem helping them when I get to choose to help… I don’t like my money being taken at gun-point and given to people that may not really need it.

I was unable to watch Shrub as he just makes me sick to my stomach. I do, however, know there are a lot of problems with health care in our country. The next time you go to a doctor, ask him/her if the pharmaceutical company that produces the drug he/she is prescribing for you gives them any kickbacks. There are more “roots” to the problem, but the general “root” to the problem is MONEY.

As far as your money being taken at gun-point and given to people that may not really need it, that is EXACTLY how I feel about the tax money I have paid going to IRAQ!

If man is causing global warming, how come it’s happening on Mars, too?

So, the global warming on Mars is the same as on Earth, because they have the same atmosphere, are the same distance from the sun, have the same climate patterns and temperature patterns as earth, and are comprised of the same CO2 levels? I don’t think so. If you can show me compelling evidence that Mars’ global warming is the same as the Earth’s because of the same variables, then we will talk. Until then, the evidence is pretty compelling that it is humans that are causing climate change, dave.

Where exactly did he say that? I watched all eight minutes and twenty seconds and all I heard him say was that each person should have the tools made available to them so they may more easily be able take responsibility for their own healthcare.

While I do agree that a person should, in many ways, be responsible for their own health; I don’t think it is realistic, logical, or even intelligent to think that everyone should be able to come up with the tools necessary to provide themselves with health care, should they need it. By suggesting that we switch to programs like health spending accounts, and increase personal responsibility for health care, Bush is blatantly saying, “if you get sick, you should have been prepared for it. Since you don’t have the money to go to the doctor, it’s your fault.”. I’m sorry if I over simplified it, which led you to think that this was not what he was saying; because it isn’t the first time he has advocated making people responsible for health care in a system that is built to make the system as rich as possible at the expense of every patient in it.

No, I’m not being ‘all or nothing here.’ I’m trying to point out that the more services you make available for free, the more those services will be abused.

dave, that is just as ignorant as saying, just because there is food, everyone will eat until you explode, just because it is available. Yes, there are people that exploit the system, but there are just as many that are slammed by the system; which is not accounted for when you just say, “but they might abuse it!”.

You start offering free services to everyone and the cost will go up… who’s going to foot that bill? Tax dollars? From who?

I have never said “free” services. I have said services that the government offers; like in every other industrialized nation in the world save one other. I think it is fair to assume that if we spent less on defense (more than every other country in the world combined), and more on our own people; the tax differential would be minimal.

Exactly, people want to blame others for their situation and not take responsibility. Hey, I’m sorry people are suffering out there and I have no problem helping them when I get to choose to help… I don’t like my money being taken at gun-point and given to people that may not really need it.

Again, you assume that people will take advantage because they can; which is speculative at best. Additionally, I am sorry to inform you, but if you want to live in a society, you have to contribute to it. You are the one that is all about the fair tax, and everyone contributing their share. Well, if that system were used to actually collect taxes, and then return those benefits to the people, would you then be so against them (since everyone is contributing)? It isn’t very different when you examine the possibility of the government providing services to those that need it. Many people will not need the services, but the taxes that we pay make this country better for everyone. I am tired of you reducing everyone that needs help into a person that is just looking for a hand out. I would have thought that not having a job would have changed your perspective even slightly, but I see that it didn’t; which honestly surprises me. I just hope that you are never faced with a situation in which you are doing everything you can to pull yourself up, and all you do is get no help, and instead get knocked back down. Does that mean you don’t deserve services? Well, according to you, no, because any assistance is being called a hand out. It is just too over simplified, and I will never agree with handling the potential services for people in this country based on broad generalizations that do not represent the majority.
