well, it’s monday…

And there isn’t much going on. So, here are some different thoughts that I have been thinking about this morning:

I was talking with my grandma on the phone this morning, and she is a hoot! She can make laugh at any time. I always love hearing her stories, and her dealings with people. It is weird to me how people will treat someone though; people are consistently rude to her, and I just don’t get it (especially since she is so much fun and so nice). Even her own son won’t stop smoking for 5 minutes to have her around, and since she can’t stand the smoke, they don’t see each other very often (even though they live within spitting distance of one another). People are just how they are, I guess, and sometimes, you just have to say fuck ‘em, and do your own thing. She and I talk about that a lot, and it is something that I really treasure that we share; we love each other, and try not to focus on those that just want something from us, or expect us to be something that we are not. She loves me for who I am, and I really appreciate that, and cherish it. I am very thankful that I have such a great relationship with her, because other than her and my cousin, I don’t really consider much of my family, actually “family”. Sometimes, you have to build your own family from what you have; and even though I only feel close to two, that’s two that I can definitely count on.

I was thinking about (i.e., I definitely want to) getting another tattoo. I want something on my left calf, above the ankle band tattoo that I currently have there. I thought about a Japanese dragon, but the more I think about it, the more I want something kind of unique. I called Russ, and he has some open spots this week, and his new shop opens next week, but I think this week would be too soon; especially since I don’t have a firm idea of what I want. Since I am wracking my brain in trying to decide what I want, I have a question for all of you: If you could get a tattoo of anything in the world, what would it be and why? Don’t worry, I won’t steal your idea… that is, unless it is a good one! LOL No seriously, I want to hear your ideas. And none of this “you have too many tattoos” silliness, because you can never have too many.

Other than that, I had a pretty great weekend, hanging out with friends, and just enjoying life. I feel like I am starting to worry less about things that are out of my control, and really find myself focusing on being happy with what I have. I am applying to Perimeter for some classes in the fall, and that has given me this sense of purpose that I didn’t think would come from such a small step. I finally feel like, for the first time in 4 years, that I am moving forward. And that makes me happier than you could know. Let’s just hope we can keep this momentum going!

    (((HUG))) back at ya cuz!!
Hey, think Russ could do me a tattoo when I’m in town?? I want a dragonfly on a twig on my right arm or shoulder.
Glad you’re feeling better and seeing life for all the good things – it’s too short to worry about things you have no control over. You are loved for who you are and always remember that the only person you need to make happy is yourself!! Love ya!!

Wendy, I don’t think that we should plan it for that weekend, since with pride, so much will be going on. Also, I meant to ask; is there any way you can bump your returning flight to later that afternoon/early evening? It would be fun to go to the parade on Sunday.

I was just kidding about the tattoo!! I’ve tried to change my flight in and out to better times of the day with no luck – seems to be a VERY busy weekend…hahaha I think what I’ll do is change it to another weekend later in the summer – is that ok with you?? Let me know and I can get a voucher for my ticket. I think that way ya’ll can hang and have fun without me being a drag and you don’t have to worry about traffic and missing the activities. Maybe I can talk Grandma into a road trip – I’ll drive.

FYI, you wouldn’t be a drag. You can come whenever you want! Maybe 4th of July? Sometime around there? That way, we could have an extra day. Either way, really. Definitely talk to Grandma… I think it will be cool!

And I have an idea for the tattoo (James actually inspired it); a red panda, up in the top of the bamboo, all “crouching tiger” style. Rock!

That tattoo sounds killer – do it!! I would the panda in multi-colors.

Maybe in July would be better – look at the LJ to see what’s really up. I’m sure I can get Grandma to go with me but it will have to be in cooler weather – she had a nice little saying to tell me all about how hot it was when she was there last – she is too funny!! She talked to you today about all the same things we talked about last Wednesday – too funny – she can tell some stories. I told her that my daddy should be ashamed of himself for the way he treats her. He is so into himself and what he can get from her – what he thinks she “owes” him.

    Talk to you later!!

    Hey Duane,

Just found your blog recently. Cool.

I’m thinking about getting another tattoo as well…I think on my lower back…something to do with motorbikes but not sure what yet.

I love the tattoo on your upper arm.

A dragon would be cool. A little research into the Chinese myths surrounding the various dragon types might inspire you and lead you to a unique interpretation.

Plan on making me some margaritas in a couple of weeks. You’re the man!

Maybe I should get one (“THIS SIDE UP”)

    whatcha think? :)

Tina, welcome! I think that I came up with an idea that I am in love with (thanks to James’ awesome suggestion); a red panda atop the bamboo forest, doing his thing “Crouching tiger” style. I can’t wait to see what Russ can do with that. And yes, Margaritas are ON!

Jim… I am a little confused. What do you mean? Do you have two heads? Are you like Cat/Dog?!? Neat!

The panda in bamboo is a cool idea for a tattoo…can’t wait to see it.

I’m wanting another tattoo as well… one to honor my own grandma. I have the design in mind and have sketched it once or twice… or a dozen times (it’s an orange tulip, simple, to represent my Dutch heritage which she was always so proud of), but I just don’t know *where* to get it.

I already have a tat on the right side of my lower back, so I feel like one in the middle of my lower back wouldn’t look right. If I knew that I was always going to work in a relaxed (non-corporate) environment, I’d consider getting it on the inside of one of my wrists…

    Argh, I just don’t know.
