no, really, seriously…

No apologies necessary. Even though I actually never tried to argue that he was part of the executive branch, and instead, focused on the actions that the democrats were taking to remove his funding he receives under the guise of the executive branch.

But since I did agree, and didn’t feel a need to argue it, I’ll just stick with “told you so”, and we can call it even, okay?

Ahem, yeah.

One of the more amusing subplots of the Bush Administration is when they make a ridiculous claim based on spurious Constitutional legal “reasoning”, and then hearing all the little brownshirts huff and puff about how technically/legally/Constitutionally/historically sound their arguments are. We were once a nation of salesman, now we are a nation of lawyers.

In the instances when a legal ruling goes soundly against the administration’s claims, it is because of judicial activism. In the even rarer cases where they back off their BS because it is too self-evident to keep a straight face any longer, the brownshirts simply drop it. I don’t listen to the radio much, but whenever something like this comes up I always tune into Sean Hannity - who really is the master of this phenomenon and deserves some kind of medal for his service to the government. His show is always good for a laugh as he twists and turns himself into a pretzel in the service of state power.

It’s like this. The Constitution dictates that the Vice President will be shared between the Executive and Legislative branches. But like with any place of employment, one of the two departments has to foot the bill for Cheney’s office. Of the two, the Executive branch pays. Done and done.

So the argument that Cheney was part of the legislative branch was ridiculous patently, but it could’ve easily been ignored with a resigned shrug. For this reason, I’m very glad that Rahm Emanuel had the nerve to call him (and his lawyers) on his bluff.
