"who are these people that gives them the right or stature to be the deciders of what is immoral"

Freedom of speech and expression by its very nature equals the freedom to say unpopular and stupid things. Your reaction to them is the mirror opposite of how they react to you. It's your values versus their rather unfortunate values.

One little tidbit I recall from Anthro 101 was never, ever judge peoples' values. Now I do that all the time with regard to terrorism, I think violence crosses the line, but in general, I let the religious types be the humonguous buttheads that they are. They are just a bunch of tight-assed pricks who, if there is a heaven and if they make it, will be very disappointed to find God isn't wrathful or vengeful at all.

"I know you are going to play the free speech card, but that is baloney"

Well it looks like you are all over me like stink on a monkey today. But if you deny them the right to campaign on a religious platform they you are denying them their rights. What (usually) saves us is the checks and balances. The "separation" means a national religion. As for morality--law, by its very nature, is moral. So there has to be moral content in politics.

"Attempts to divide people like this have consumed too much of our politics over the past six years."

Whoa, now *that's* a divisive thing for Obamalongadingdong to say.

"it certainly shouldn’t be something that a presidential candidate is focused on."

That is a judgement of their values and polical beliefs, the very thing you decry! Say it ain't so.

"The main reason being that gay marriage isn’t a gay or lesbian issue, it is an equal civil rights issue. Nothing less, nothing more."

My way of putting it: when did marriage become something to be owned by straight people? If marriage can be owned, then how about voting rights? Let's take them away from women!

"I say, that if you want to deny me because of who I am, then every single one of us that are gay/lesbian/transgendered/bi-sexual/etc should secede from this fucking country and get the hell out."

I could just picture you getting mad and leaving in a huff with a suitcase with flowers all over it. But the status quo still isn't that bad for me. I'd rather try and make things get better. And I really think they will.
