POPcast episode 2, more soldier nonsense, and why Fox “news” is evil

A few weeks ago, I recorded the second episode of the Atlanta POPcast; a podcast where I highlight music that I want to get the word out about. As of yesterday, that podcast is now up, and ready for you to download, listen to, and enjoy!! Make sure you check it out. In this episode, I expose you to the greatness that is Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jamelia, as well as a few fantastic singles. If you are hankering for some new pop music, this will definitely wet your appetite! I hope you enjoy my podcast, and know that I am already getting materials ready for episode number 3! I never thought I would like doing this, but it totally encourages me to find new music, as well as lets me share music I love with all of you. I am having fun with this, ya’ll!

Alright, seriously, I read this today, and I really hope that it is an awful farce, or at best, an extreme exaggeration. If they are really sending troops that are deemed unfit for battle back to Iraq, that is unacceptable. I am disgusted and appalled that the soldiers that are risking their lives in this war are continually being treated so badly. I never thought that it was so dreadfully awful to be in the military (well, I definitely don’t want to be in it myself), but unfortunately, I am being shown more and more everyday what an awful position it must be for those that have no other choice but going into the military. Those that choose to serve our country deserve much more than respect, they deserve to receive our fucking support already. Shame on anyone that had anything to do with this, as well as the other injustices that continually come to light about the troops. I just can’t believe that serving your country seems to get you continually shit on. It doesn’t have to be that way, and it has got to change.

Finally, THIS is the reason why Fox “news” is not ever going to be right, unless you follow that “right” with “wing” and “propaganda”. Seriously, I have said it before, and I know that at least one person watches this program for his news, and I just don’t get it. This is an organization that “predicted” the election back in 2004, and as a result, threw a huge fuck up in the air, causing doubt, and an eventual turn of events. Making the false into something true is what Fox “news” is really good at. If you don’t want to be given false information, steer clear of Fox “news”, please. And if you do watch/read it, I hope that you are intelligent enough to question things that don’t seem to add up, especially when they are the opposite of what the rest of the media is saying. And get over this “the media is leftist liberal” bullshit. It isn’t.

“the media is leftist liberal” bullshit. It isn’t.”

Duane, I watch a lot of news, I mean A LOT, and I can tell you that most of the mainstream media is very biased and left-leaning. Poll after poll show they support leftwing candidates. What I see of Fox is very rightwing editorials, but their news is very “fair and balanced”, so people like Bill O’reilly and Hannity don’t count. Those guys are biased.

From your link (I didn’t read the whole thing) it looked like some of those things were mistakes (like Foley being a “D”) but CNN, MSNBC,etc, all do similar things. I don’t think they are deliberate, either.

Don’t you remember when Dan Rather tried to spoil the 04 election with those phoney documents over Bush’s Air Nat’l Guard episode? Every night they run down the stories in a left-leaning way, always negative on everything about Bush and Iraq.

I really wish you would take a look at this. It is a very good website that teaches how to watch the news objectively and not be taken in by any bias–left or right:

““predicted” the election back in 2004,”

What are you talking about here?

I also watch and follow the news a lot, and I don’t see how reporting things that happen is “leftist”. That’s all I have to say about that; one website isn’t going to convince

Also, I am referring to when Fox News predicted the election to go Bush before it did, and all the other news channels followed suit. The events that followed ended up in a very well publicised cry for a true count, which never happened. Many see that as the first stone that was cast, that subsequently cost Gore the election (even though he did win).

That wasn’t 2004, but 2000, and you got it backwards. It was the liberal media outlets that called Florida for Gore before the polls were closed in the conservative western panhandle resulting in thousands of Bush votes walking out the door.

But dirty tricks by the liberal media is nothing new: in 2004 we have Dan Rather personally trying to overturn the election with phony national guard documents about Bush.

There was a series of recounts both during and after the election and every result was Bush winning by the standards Gore was insisting on.

“That’s all I have to say about that; one website isn’t going to convince”

Yes, that was one link I posted, and it is a very good one for anyone wanting to be educated on the matter, but it is certainly not the only one. BTW, your one link was some fool’s blog; you cite that as evidence yet you insist you watch the news. Why would someone read political blogs if they watched the news? :-) I had to zing you on that one.

Well, next time you watch the news, please take note that NO expert they ever put on will agree with Bush or the rightwingers (I’m referring to the subject matter experts they put on at the end of a story). If you ever find an instance of this please let me know. Also note the verbage they use, especially noting who “bashes” someone and who “comes back swinging.”

As for the MRC link, I would find it odd that you can be so dismissive about a very reputable organization (I’ve followed them closely for years on a daily basis and can vouch for them) but can be so accepting when you watch the news. I think you should be equally critical of both. I don’t take anything for granted, or at least I try to have that as my standard. My preference is to verify things with facts when I can.

You’re right, I meant 2000. Thanks for clearing that up.

Fox News makes these “mistakes” ALL the time. Once you report something, even if you “correct” it later, they know, that most people remember the first thing they hear. This is clear manipulation and propaganda. To this day I still meet people who think Foley is a Democrat. It’s funny that the Foley “D” thing was mentioned in passing. This was before the election when the republicans were taking hits left and right. They got it wrong for two days on every program, VanSusteren, Hannity, etc. If it were a mistake and not intentional it would have been caught quickly (people call in and email like crazy). They left it as a “D” for a long period of time. It also wasn’t corrected on program re-runs. This was either galactically incompetent or intentional. And for a news organization as large as Fox, you really have to go with the latter.

My favorite FoxNews thing to follow is the WMD’s secret location du jour. I’m surprised Fox News hasn’t put forth the notion that Saddam’s WMD’s are in the hands of Angelina Jolie’s Martian love children on the dark side of the moon by now (they’re running our of geographical locations on this planet).

And seriously, using the MRC link and the work “objective” in the same sentence takes some pretty big cahones. It is a known conservative site. I’m familiar with the site as well from back in my more conservative leaning days and it is always screaming about liberal media bias (not media bias in general). That site is worthless for any kind of education. Indoctinaltion perhaps. It’s like citing NewsMax.com as an objective source of information. But anyone can see that for themselves if they just look around it. For example go to Profiles in Bias and do a find with the word “liberal”. It appears 24 times (and not much text on page mind you). The word “right” or “rightwing” does not appear at all. “Conservative” appears three times and only to point out how they are harming conservatives.

Everybody is onto Fox News’ game. Some people admit it, some don’t. I don’t waste my breath arguing about it anymore, because all it accomplishes is to send those hacks more viewership/search engine traffic/etc.

All that aside, I love the inflection you always put on “pop music” in the podcast.

Yep. The editorials or opinion pieces on Fox News are dominated by conservatives and right-wingers. When it comes to the straight news reporting however, Fox has been shown to be un-biased especially when compared to the other major news networks.

I watch/read it all. Fox is good but just like all of them, it’s about ratings, entertainment and ultimately money.
