James and I watched this very fascinating documentary this weekend called Buried At Sea (sorta half ass link), in which they went around looking for the sites where munitions were dumped in the world’s oceans after World War I and World War II. What they found, was little to no accountability in most cases, and surprisingly, many more sites than were expected; many of which are not very far off the shores of the US, the UK, and so on. Basically, what happened, was after the wars, in which everyone had stockpiled chemical weapons, like mustard gas, the massive stockpiles of those weapons were taken out to sea and simply dumped. And, which is even more interesting, is that they didn’t really keep track of where they were dumped, and they don’t even monitor them or anything.
Now, I know what you are thinking, “why should I care?”, but what I find fascinating about this, is that for one thing, the dumping was done with absolutely no regard for the future. Millions and millions of tons of deadly chemical weapons and bombs are, in many cases, just a mile or so off of the coastlines of almost every continent on the planet. When they dumped these weapons, they didn’t consider the fact that the shells containing the chemical weapons wouldn’t last forever. It is therefore, conceivable, that these chemicals are going to leech out into the environment. I checked a CDC fact sheet about mustard gas, just to get a clearer picture about it, and it doesn’t mention anything particular about mustard gas in the ocean. What I find even more interesting about these massive stockpiles of WMDs in the ocean, is that mustard gas was the very WMD that Bush claimed Saddam Hussein had, and was going to use in Iraq. It was the reason used to justify us going to war with Iraq, and low and behold, there are millions of tons of it just off the coast! Yikes!
I just hope that no one goes down there and gets these WMDs that we KNOW exist. I find it interesting that we went to war with someone because we THOUGHT someone had these very same WMDs, and here they are, all over the world under the water. Weird, huh? Also, it is interesting that often times, these weapons wash up on the shore, and still, nothing is being done about it. One of the sites was off the coast of Savannah, so if you are at the beach, be wary of WMDs being possibly too close for comfort.
A final side note: If you don’t agree with me, or want to discuss your opinion with me, then do it here, that’s why comments are enabled. Don’t be a coward and blab about it on your blog behind my back. It’s time to grow a pair; I can take criticism and differing opinions, and even welcome them. You can do or say whatever you want with your own blog, but it just makes you look like a coward if you constantly talk shit about people behind their backs.

I’m just exposing a viewpoint that I think is dangerous. Where I choose to do so shouldn’t matter.
As I said, whatever you want to do is fine by me, but trying to justify talking about someone behind their back doesn’t make you any less of a coward.
That is one of the many reasons I do not eat fish or anything out of the water. Patrick used to be in the navy on a ship and he has told me stories of all kinds of things being thrown in the ocean willy nilly. Cars, paint, toxic stuff, chemicals etc etc etc. Whatever they have no more use for they just throw overboard. And he was just on one ship, think of all the other ships out there doing the same thing, and you can see it becoming a major issue.
If I were talking behind your back I don’t think I’d publish something read by more than 100 people daily, including, apparently, yourself. How’s that cowardly?
As for reading your site myself, I get updated links to my blog, and that is how I knew you were referring to what I have said. I don’t read your blog other than that at all. But, a big congrats on the other 99 people that frequent your blog though. It’s a shame that almost all of them neglect to comment. (I don’t like lurkers either…)
Regardless of how I discovered what you have said about me, saying something about someone, whether it is on the Internet “for all to see”, in a way that doesn’t bring it to their attention directly, is talking about them behind their back. It is the same thing as talking shit at a meeting that I am not at, but was invited to attend. Just because I was invited and had access to the meeting doesn’t nullify that you were still talking behind my back. In addition, just because I have a savvy knowledge of technology, and can find your comments through no help from you, doesn’t mean that you aren’t talking behind my back.
Again, do whatever you want, but trying to justify the fact that you are talking about me behind my back, and often taking things I say out of context for the purpose of making your own assumptions about me, is still cowardly. If you have a problem with something I write, why not be upfront about it? If you don’t want to do that, again, that is fine, but I personally would settle with the cowardly way, especially since we are talking about someone who is so loudly opinionated himself.
Maybe you should just censor me, since you seem to have certain fascist tendencies. And I quoted you directly, so I don’t know how that’s taking you out of context. But I’m sure I’ve victimized you somehow.
And actually, we average about the same # of visitors (my SiteMeter was down for a week, otherwise I was approaching 200), so your snide little comment is baseless.
I don’t want to censor you. You keep saying that, even when I say that I want the opposite. Do you know what the definition of insanity is? Seriously, write whatever you want, I just don’t appreciate it that you talk shit about me on your blog and don’t even have the balls to tell me. I also love your all or nothing tactics used to define and characterize everyone. Why don’t you have any room for gray in your life?
You did take something I said out of context. When I write a post, and I have an overarching message, choosing what you see to be my “campaign for censorship”, when it is clear that I am against that, per the rest of the post, is taking a comment out of context, and creating your own image of what I really think. You do it again and again, so I don’t expect you to stop, I just wish that people would represent what I really believe, rather than lift one line of a 4 or 5 paragraph post, and state that the one sentence is what I am saying, and what I believe. That’s actually pretty ignorant, but then again…
As for your sitemeter, I couldn’t care less. As for your site, I couldn’t care less who visits it or who doesn’t; I am just concerned with what is said about me. And to be quite frank, I am not really concerned what you say about me either; I was just pointing out the cowardly manner in which you continually use to do so.
You: “What puzzles me is, who are these people that gives them the right or stature to be the deciders of what is immoral? Obviously, homosexuality is a polarizer in this country, but I don’t think that either of these men have the place, OR FRANKLY THE RIGHT, to decide that homosexual acts are immoral.”
You: “And who is listening to them? What I am talking about, is those people that, for whatever reason, have been given the ability to spread their views and opinions to the public, via books, speeches, etc; and REGARDLESS OF FREE SPEECH, ARE PEOPLE THAT I BELIEVE REALLY SHOULDN’T BE HEARD AT ALL.”
You: “I am all for free speech, but just about anything that comes out of her, and her fellow crazies mouth’s, SHOULDN’T be making its way to c-span, the front page of any paper, and CERTAINLY NOT A BOOK SHELF.”
And next time I talk shit about you, I’ll be sure to email you first: “Hey Duane, I’m ripping you again … check it out.”
It’s not personal, dude, but I do find many of your viewpoints scary as hell, and it’s very common for bloggers to rip other bloggers. I know you hurt easily, but if you can’t stand the rhetorical heat write a diary or something.
You fucking ignorant ass, I AM NOT HURT BY WHAT YOU SAY. I can’t say it loudly enough, apparently. AND, I have told you 4 (this makes 5) times now that I don’t give a fuck what you do, it is your blog, but you are still a coward for doing it that way. Shut the fuck up already. Seriously, it just makes you look like an ass for continually saying the same thing over and over, especially when you can clearly see that I don’t feel that way. Gah.
Also, what a way to prove my point. I love that you took these statements and call my examination of extremes, and call for some form of regulation, censorship and fascism. Again, you completely missed the point of what I am saying, and what I consistently say. If you would like to argue the ACTUAL issue, I am all for it, but I am frankly tired of your out of context dribble. And frankly, if you call being someone who is intelligent enough to see that a society without regulation, “dangerous”, well, then I guess I don’t mind being the dangerous boy that I am. Hell, those with the “dangerous thoughts” are the ones that make changes, and in many cases, have done great things. Perhaps that is a compliment.
I know that my continuing to engage you is equivalent to jerking you off, and I am frankly getting tired of pleasuring you. If you want to actually contribute something, I’ll be ready to address it, but if you want to continually ignore what I have said and say the same things you always do, I am tuning out; the broken record thing is getting pretty old.
“You fucking ignorant ass” — you take me back to the Algonquin Round Table with that kind of intelligent discourse. You’re the one who doesn’t get it — are you going to be in charge of “regulating” speech? God help us all; you’d probably be fining people who dared say something mean about Britney Spears.
Whats next folks? Will Atlmalcontent turn up on Duane’s doorstep to finally put an end to the dangerous Britney-loving homo? Tune in tomorrow for another installment of the blog-opera, ‘My Site Gets More Hits Than Yours’ for your daily dose of ‘really, who gives a shit’. See you then!
atlmalcontent: *broken record sound*. Yawn.
deb: LMAO!
They did find a little mustard gas in Iraq, btw.
OH! OH! OH! And that a-bomb off the coast of Ga! That’s the one that freaks me out. I don’t remember if they retreived it or not, but it was there a long time.
Very interesting… this kind of thing fascinates me. (The mustard gas situation, not atlmalcontent’s weird obsession w/ you.)
No, just a weird obsession with exposing foolishness.
Then you should have a weird obsession with yourself! LOL
Atlmalcontent -
You are a bully and seem to get great pleasure from pushing buttons. Maybe you need to grow up – get your mouth off your dick – and wipe your face… not every human is going to think/act like you. Blogs are a way to vent and bloggers do attack each other but ENOUGH is ENOUGH – MOVE ON.
Because Duane is a person who cares – he comments back to those who visit/read and comment on his blog. On the other hand (please wipe yours) what he says on his blog is for him and his visitors (not assholes like you who only want to misquote and bully) – use your own blog to talk about things that cross your mind – don’t use his thoughts to bully and cock rub. Your inability to jack off with your own mindless thoughts does not constitute the need for you to rip him for his blog topic of the day.
Grow a real pair and stop thinking with your dick – everyone is on edge and dangerous when backed into a corner just for having a mind and view of their own.
You express yourself beautifully, Wendy.
I try not to think about things like Mustard gas being somewhere in the ocean. If I did I might never leave the house or go swimming again! I can only imagine how much crap is out there and what we did to the environment already. I don’t know if it can ever be repaired. I would like to think the earth is resilient and it will someday be able to heal itself, maybe after the people are gone. But I don’t want to think about that either, I will just get depressed!
All of this fighting is gonna make me run bite my pillow!!!!!
atlmalcontent: OH SNAP! You showed her!
How very 1995 of you, Duane.
You really got me there! Hey, just for future purposes, do you want to be the pot or the kettle, because I kinda like the ring to kettle, so I’ll take that one if you don’t have a preference.
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, just call me a fucking ignorant ass again, that works fine.
Duane Baby….does this guy have a grade school crush on you? Wow…dont’ let him get to you. It’s tough being so beautiful:)
Wow just saw the doco that this blog is supposed to cover, “Buried at sea” which was frightening and frustrating and defiantly not our finest hour. Along with the many thousands on tons of chemical and standard munitions, the 51 nuclear weapons and 7 nuclear reactors either dumped or lost in OUR oceans, (the oceans belong to all of us and the multitude of other creatures we share the world with) there are also the countless tons of nuclear waste and other rubbish that for reasons of cost ignorance or convenance were dumped into the water. The records of what and where the stuff was dumped are crap and people and the environment are being hurt.
Why o why is so much of the comments of this blog involve slagging off of others? It’s petty and boring and takes 2 to play.
