birthday, birthday, BIRTHDAY!!!!

Yep. Today’s my birthday. WOO HOO!

Thanks to everyone that is helping me celebrate, has helped me celebrate, and will help me celebrate, both IRL, URL, and whatever. YAY!

Something interesting for you to think about (well, it was interesting to me, anyway); yesterday, I went to get a mani/pedi for my birthday. I wanted to be pampered, and all I can say, is that I will definitely be getting these things more regularly from now on. But what was interesting to me about the experience, is that when I walked in, there was an instant feeling of “what the hell is he doing here” in the room. Then, I was ignored by the people that worked there, because they thought I was with the girl in front of me. After I was finally seated and being pampered like a queen, I could still feel the awkwardness related to the fact that I was a man doing something traditionally enjoyed only by women (at least in this shop). In fact, they continually asked me throughout the hour how I knew about the shop, which one of my girlfriends told me to come there, and so on. It was a constant questioning of my motives for coming in to be pampered. Interesting. I just found it interesting, because while driving to get the mani/pedi, I was actually a little skittish because I was going alone, and wanted to avoid the very thing that happened when I went in; those feelings of “what is he doing here”, and the “judgement”. It wasn’t a negative experience, and I would (will) do it again in a heartbeat, but I just found it interesting that feeling that goes with participating in gender specific activities if you are the opposite sex that normally partakes in them.

I was told that next time I will have to go to midtown to get one, because I am pretty sure I won’t be an anomaly… the gays love the mani/pedi’s! I can’t wait till my next one!

Also, as a final note, if you are leaving comments, I know that the site can sometimes take a few minutes to load and whatever, so just hit the button ONCE, and wait. If you hit it several times, it posts it that many times. It is my stupid server that does it, not my site stuff, so please be patient. I appreciate it in advance!

    Happy Birthday Duane!!!

It’s probably less awkard for them if you were there with the girl that was in front of you. At least that was the case for me a birthday of mine a few years ago when I was taken to get my one and only pedicure by someone.

The one I go to ALWAYS has men in it! It’s cheap and fantastic! It has a generic name like “Nails” and it’s located in the Publix shopping center at the corner of North Avenue and Piedmont road - in Midtown - surprise! The people who work there are Korean and they can throw DOWN on the pedi’s, mani’s, neck massages and they also have this fabulous (did I say that word already?) mint lotion that they will put on your legs and feet and wrap them in a warm cloth. I think I need to go now just talking about it! Check it out!
    BTW - Happy Birthday!!

Happy 28th B-Day!! I love ya lots - hope to be able to visit soon.

Use care when getting your nails done - you can get more than you pay for like a nasty fungus that can be VERY painful.

Do what all Moodys do best - get drunk!! I’ll have a few in your honor tonight - bottoms up!!

    Happy Birthday Duane!

You’re not allowed to do that alone. It was for your birthday and you went solo? Dude No you need backup so when those Asian attack your feet you can talk to your buddy and get your mind off thinking they are talking junk about your feet in whatever language they’re speaking in. ::hug::

I hope today is very awesome for you.

I do find it interesting that the staff of that salon was so stunned to see a guy getting a mani/pedi. I mean, guys (gay AND straight) have been getting them for years! Plus, you live in a major city - one that has one of the largest gay populations in the southern US.

Well, I’m glad you ultimately had a good experience, because had you not, I would suggest you find another place. And next time, try to bring a friend, because it is that much more fun when you’re hanging out doing that. Not sure if you’ve ever been to my friend Micah’s blog, called Shut Up, I Know!, but he very recently posted a little video of his recent trip to the nail salon. Here’s the link:

Funny enough, I’ve had professional manicures and never really been happy with the end result. I feel that I do a better job at home. I am pretty attentive to my nails. All I use is a nail clipper, an emory board, a cuticle stick, and most important of all, a cuticle nipper. I pretty much fix problems as they arise, things like ragged cuticles and hangnails.

Just one piece of advice: be conservative when nipping your cuticles because the tiniest nip seems to bleed forever. And yes, despite the rumors, it is safe to nip your cuticles as long as you just cut dead, excess skin.

Seeing how I’m reading this on Sunday morning, here’s wishing you a Happy (belated) Birthday, Duane! Hope you had a great day.

Yes, happy belated birthday from me too. I didn’t get to the internet yesterday. My bf used to go to a nail place in far north Sandy Springs and he never experienced anything except great friendly service from the staff there. The customers were another matter. Occasionally they would give him funny looks and snicker among themselves (the teenage girls were the worst) but he didn’t give a damn. Midtown is the place to go, I’m sure.

About the duplicate post and your comments earlier. I hit the “Let’s do this!” button only once but it still posted it twice. It’s done that before as well. Just thought you should know I’m not being a moron!

Happy Birthday, sweetie, even if I’m a little late…
Oh, by the way, I know 2 fabulous places to get the mani/pedi — one is here in Midtown, and the other by Perimeter Mall… owned by the same people, and its a rare Saturday that I go into either location without seeing at least one guy. :)
