um…

i totally love that phone. and would pay $600 for it, if i had the bucks. in fact, i have loved that phone since last december when it was released in europe (seen here).

as for what people think about me because i want that phone, i’m with dpb on this one. we all value stuff differently and want different things (material or otherwise) out of life. it’s not my place to pass judgement on how you spend your money, so don’t judge how i spend mine.

I honestly can’t fathom how anyone has the right to tell me what I should or should not spend my money on.

If you have money to send to charities or Africa, that’s awesome. Send until your heart is content, but keep in mind that you have no right to expect me to do the same.

Does that make me a bad or evil person? Maybe in your eyes but I don’t think so.

Seriously, if I could convert those little tickmarks into dollar bills? I’d be a rich woman - rich enough to pay off my debts, buy myself something nice, AND send food to starving kids in Africa!

I went out on a couple of dates with this one guy who was very “Scottsdale” The trendy/snooty part of town. He was saying, not asking, saying how cute his jeans were. They were $300 jeans. I was appalled by the price. I said, “$300 jeans is just ridiculous. There are people starving and your buying something that you could easily get for $50.”
He said, “Well they should get a job if they are starving.”
I said, “They do. Making your jeans!”

Seriously Duane…you’re getting your panties twisted for no reason. If you don’t see the hypocrisy in your original statement then it’s not worth discussing. My “liberal” jab has to do with the fact that somehow they always think they know how to spend other people’s money better than those people themselves. Your conservative reference has no merit since I consider myself a libertarian. Whether someone decides to donate “their” money no matter how they earned it is “their” choice. This is not a socialist society we live in. That’s the reason you have so many choices on everything from your favorite restaurants to your big screen TV’s. I understand you are trying to be sympathetic toward people that don’t have as much as you but you really need to rethink your view on how other people should spend their money. Even Paris Hilton! (side note…I’d put it in that hoe’s poop shoot)

That being said, I still donate to charities *and* love the giant, flatscreen HDtv and overpriced laptop.

duane, keep in mind that just because money is not going directly to a charity, it doesn’t mean it’s not benefiting those in need. Any time money changes hands, it affects numerous amounts of people. Just think of all the little kids in the Phillipines that were able to have bread for dinner because you bought a phone that they assembled!

But seriously, it’s not a person’s responsibility to contribute to charities just because they have money. Just because you have the ability to do something doesn’t mean you have the obligation.

I refuse to donate to charities… but I’m not rich.
