My personal philosophy is, if it gets in the way of your life, take it out. Of course, you’ve had it since you were 18, so I guess it hasn’t gotten in the way that much.

I took mine out and I’ve always regretted it, and now I’m in a position work-wise where I really can’t have it back. If you can keep it, I would. One thing I did do was go with plastic ends for a while, and also got a very short bar for “every day” — there was less stuff waving around in my mouth to chomp down on. I kept the cool long sparkly one for when I was going out.

I had to have around $4000 worth of work done over the last 18 months. Three wisdom teeth removed, a crown, and more fillings than I’m willing to admit. My dentist never mentioned if any of it was a direct result from my tongue ring but when the bill came I decided a $5 piercing wasn’t worth $4000.
