back from the dentist…

$275. For about 15 minutes worth of work. Where did I put that application for dentistry school, again? Jeez. Luckily I have insurance. But oh wait… it doesn’t pay for the whole thing, even though I pay like $20 a month to them. Thanks again insurance folks! And they say that we don’t need insurance reform in this country. HA!

Hope everyone else’s Thursday is motherfucking kick ass!!

Dr. Moody - sounds good to me. When will you be applying to dental school?? Then again, they (whoever they might be) say a persons mouth is very dirty and the bite can kill….ummmm still want to apply?? Could be a new career with lots of money - most denist I know only work 3 days a week and charge an arm, leg and first born child.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Did you remove the tongue ring??

Sounds like duanemoody needs insurance reform. Who the hell pays $20 for dental insurance? I thought gov’t agencies had decent plans … hell, they should with as many employees as they have.

BTW, insurance isn’t supposed to pay for every visit for whatever reason. If it did, your premiums would be even higher. What was the procedure performed? If it’s cosmetic, you’re SOL but if it’s legit they probably should have ante’d up a little more. All depends on how much the entire procedure was. Do you know?

you must have said something my spam bot catchers didn’t like. Perhaps it sensed your “mean tone”! HA!

And, to be honest dave, you have to admit that most insurance companies do dick people over EVEN if they pay their premiums and it is a legit claim. What is the point of having dental insurance if it doesn’t take care of dental procedures? The problem is that the costs of dental work are too high, which are reflective of gouging insurance companies; hence the need for insurance reform. If insurance companies would actually take some stock in their role in the whole thing, instead of passing the buck completely to the consumer and the government, then it would be easier to have and use; and things wouldn’t be so damn expensive! (both the insurance AND the procedures)

    I’m feeling you.

I just got a prescription from my dr. today that I *know* my insurance isn’t going to cover. Asses.

Insurance companies are partially at fault. They try to practice medicine by telling doctors what they will and won’t pay for if a patient comes in for this or that.

Another, bigger problem for insurance companies is all the frivelous malpractice suits that get filed. Doctor’s are forced to charge more so they can make enough to pay their malpractice insurance… I’m not kidding. I’ve heard of doctor’s who make $500k a year only to pay $250k in malpractice insurance. Yeah, $250k a year is still great, but where did that $500k come from? Your bill… half of $275 is much easier to fork over…

That’s so true. I had a great doctor in Orlando who couldn’t afford to practice there anymore because of the malpractice fees and moved to another state.

Yeah I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out last Friday. Total Suck, and then on top of it I had to pay $500 for the honor. Sucked.

It’s ironic that the cost of this one procedure is more than the amount you send the insurance company in a year. I’m on your side about the high cost of health care, but I don’t follow your logic. You pay $240 a year to the insurance company, and then you get pissed when they won’t cover 100% of a $275 procedure, of which someone could possibly have 10 or 15 in a year? That would be a pretty bad deal for the insurance companies. I’m not an actuary, so I don’t have the information on risk, but I just want to know what you expect to get in return for the $240 you send them… $500? $600?

Most of your basic dental plans cover up to $1000 or $1500 in payouts in a year. Is that a bad deal for $240?

I long ago did the math on our dental insurance. The wife and I pay somewhere around $30 a month for the two of us, and with the cleanings (covered 100%) and the odd filling or sealant here and there (covered 50%), we pretty much break even. Sure, I guess it’d be nicer if they covered everything 100%, but that would cost them a lot more than what we pay, every single year. I mean, it’d be even nicer if I didn’t have to pay anything at all, but dentists don’t work for free, right?
