people are always asking, so here’s a great reason…

why I fucking hate W:

“Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society”

Gay marriage is back on the chopping block (conveniently in time for elections… hmmm), and I view this as a direct form of hatred against me. I don’t care what you think about Bush, or how you look at it, but it is undeniable that this is bigotry and hatred, and makes my fucking skin crawl. AND, for that reason, if for no other reason, I hate that fucker.

Now, let’s dissect what he is saying here, and really examine what is really being “upheld” and “protected” by this ban on gay marriage:
1) “commitment of a husband and wife to live and serve one another” — um, how does that change when gays get married? IT DOESN’T!!!!!!! Unless, you are fucking a gay person on the side, and well, that is your issue, not all of ours, ass.
2) “promotes the welfare of children” — If you are so worried about the welfare of our children, start showing us!!! Bush, you don’t give a shit about the kids, right? Because if you did, then you would actually start properly funding the programs that support them. This would be a great place to start showing us that you actually DO care about kids, as opposed to using a hot button issue that furthers your own religious agenda.
3) “the stability of society” — So you are telling me that gay marriage is so powerful that it can unhinge the very stability of society (at that straight marriage, even at it’s current 50% failure rate, will maintain it?)? Well Goddamn! That is a powerful fucking ability we gays may have!! You must stop that! We wouldn’t want things like disappearing social security, absence of national health-care (with more than 15% of people without health insurance), a war with no exit strategy, demonization of immigrants, or an insane deficit to occur (because I can argue certifiably that these things, without a doubt, are essentially threatening the stability of society) because of gay marriage… oh wait, that um, has happened without our help. You did all that on your own. So leave us the fuck alone, asshole, and stop treating gay marriage like it a bigger problem than actually taking care of the shit that is going down right now! Maybe you should look more at your priorities than gay marriage! Gee for someone who is so against the gays, you sure do think about us a lot.

Can’t everyone just realize that we want one thing with legal gay marriage, and it is TO BE LEFT THE FUCK ALONE!?!?! Why is that so very hard to comprehend? Jesus! And people still wonder why I don’t support the president, and why I am willing to buy a CD of people who don’t as well… well, now you know!!! And for the record, because I know that there are those of you out there that will be all, “but it isn’t just the president” blah blah blah. Save it. I know there are a lot of cruel and evil fuckers that have their hand in this too, I am not excluding them, but HE said this. HE believes this, and HE is pushing this. So HE is the one that I can direct my disgust at, after all, he is throwing hatred at me; fairs fair.

Yeah, that position really dissapoints me. Topics such as these are the reason why I, despite having strong conservative beliefs, do not consider myself Republican.

What bothers me is that statements like this do nothing more than rile up the old school conservatives but turn away all the moderates. This election is going to rely on the moderates so you can pretty much put a fork in the Republican party because they are done.

plus, as I’ve said before… girl/girl is hot.

Thanks for saying this so well!
I wanted to write something along the same lines for my blog, but could never be so clear and concise on a Monday morning.

When I was at the gym on Saturday, CNN was on and I looked up and saw an image of Bush with the words “Gay Marriage Ban” on the bottom of the screen. Then he put up his hand to wave and a chill went through me when I realized how much he was reminded me of Hitler.
Well, except for the fact that Hitler was actually brilliantly evil and W. is entertained by the green little “walk” guy on stoplights.

Get over it! George W. Bush believes homosexuality is wrong. Face it. He has a differing opinion than you (and others). However, he was voted to be our leader so he is in charge right now. Don’t get your panties in such a wad until he’s our president for another term! lol. Voice your opinion democratically by choosing who you vote for.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 duane Jun 5th, 2006 at 2:35 pm

Anne, I didn’t vote for him, I voted for Kerry, so I DID voice my opinion democratically! And just because someone believes something is right or wrong doesn’t mean that it is… by pushing this agenda, he is pushing a personal religious agenda that not even the Vice President agrees with; think about that for a second. It also goes against the constitution, so what he thinks is wrong, is actually denying us our rights. Going against our constitution seems like a bigger wrong to me (even though we all know that homosexuality isn’t wrong, and there is no argument that is ever going to convincingly say otherwise). Jeez, when are you people going to get it that when this goes, it is only the first of many rights that are going the way of the dodo. I just don’t understand how people see this as such a “one trick pony”.

And thank GOD he can’t be the president for another term; but that doesn’t mean the shit that he fucked up isn’t going to spill over into the next presidency, or the next. These things affect the long term, so I am going to get my panties in a wad now, umkay?

OMG, Robyn and I don’t want kids, does that make our marriage null and void? Speaking as a heterosexual male, who is happily married and who is in a relationship that is BY CHOICE without children, where do we fit in? We aren’t… what was it… “promoting the welfare of children and the stability of society” so are we to be classed as outcasts as well?

Or is it ok for us because, you know, we’re not “one of them”. And speaking of the supposed welfare of children, what kind of world is this to bring a child into anyways?

Urgh, the bile is just rising and rising inside me right now

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 raggedy anne Jun 5th, 2006 at 2:52 pm

Duane, please re-read my post before referring to me as part of “you people”. Never did I agree with GWB.

And why do you call him a bigot in your initial post? Is it because he has the traits as webster defines “bigot”? (a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices) If that’s the case, he may not be the only one, huh?

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 duane Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:15 pm

Anne, when I said “you people” I was referring to you (and many others), because if you don’t think this is a big deal (as I sensed from the tone of your comment), then you don’t grasp how much of a slippery slope it truly is. Even if you don’t agree with Bush, letting this issue go because,

“George W. Bush believes homosexuality is wrong. Face it. He has a differing opinion than you (and others). However, he was voted to be our leader so he is in charge right now.”

then I really fear for this country and the world. Let’s hope his next hot button issue isn’t nuclear bombing Iran… but then, he is our leader, right?? Jesus. The point here, Anne, is that he is willing to do this for political gain, lord knows what else he is capable of. I, for one, am a little afraid.

And um, I believe that what you are describing is being close-minded. Being close-minded means that you are intolerant to other beliefs and are too stubborn to see past your own. That leaves out the portion of being intolerant to others because they don’t believe what you do. Being a bigot also includes that you are intolerant of anyone that disagrees or differs from your “obstinately or intolerantly devoted opinions and prejudices”. If you have feelings about a group or person that they are wrong because they don’t believe in your religion, race, or politics, then that is a bigot. So, yeah, Bush is a bigot.

Just wrote emails to Chambliss and Isakson.

Going against their traditional habit, neither one has the “anti-gay marriage” party line up on their website. This is unusual. Both are typically so party loyal. So I wrote them, hopeful against reason. We’ll see.

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 deb Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:22 pm

I agree. Makes my stomach turn.

I also find the view of current events posited by ‘raggedy anne’ ridiculously simplistic. A federal amendment to the constitution (part of this rhetoric), which in effect creates a second-class citizenry, is something to stand up against and protest vehemently. It’s not about belief systems and the right to differing opinions (I mean, who doesn’t get that?). This guy is making policy, and policy impacts lives, like mine.

I think we have all learned over the last 6 years that going out to vote is not enough. I for one will not be waiting until 2008 to express my disagreement.

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 raggedy anne Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:25 pm

Duane, why do you feel the need to defend yourself and your beliefs/thought processes, on your own blog? I can understand a healthy conversation, even a debate. But, jeez, you can’t have that. I think you would go back and forth all day. After all, don’t you think a blog should be for healthy discussion and differing opinions? Or should we all be in agreeance? Here you go. Yours is the only way… I have no further response. Hurry, get the final word. Get it.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Jeff Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:31 pm

I’ve just chosen to ignore the news for today…it’ll save my blood pressure a bit.

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 duane Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:32 pm

Anne, um, last time I checked this was my blog! If you don’t like what I have to say, then say so, but I’ll be damned if I am not going to defend my opinion; to suggest otherwise is totally fucking stupid. Or do you think that I should just write a bunch of shit, let people tell me I’m wrong and then go, “well, you know, they are right!”. What a moron. If you don’t like it, don’t come back. I am fine with differing opinions, but since this is my blog, I can retort. By the way, do you even know what you are talking about??? I mean you are all over the place there! Maybe you should proof read before you hit “let’s do this”. I have never said that “my way was the only way”, but if you see me as intelligently telling you you are wrong, then, well, I guess that is what you take home from it. That’s sad for you. I thought that a debate/healthy conversation/expressing differing opinions WAS a debate… but maybe I’m wrong… hmmm.

And are you ready for that final word? Fuck off if you don’t like it. Oh wait, that was seven.

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 Jeff Jun 5th, 2006 at 3:32 pm

No wonder he got he won the last election with voters like this.

Whatever. ‘Raggedy Anne’ is clearly a plant. Honestly at this point it’s just kind of entertaining to see what idiotic semi-sentences s/he will trot out next. For example, what will s/he say in response to this very comment?? She probably has plenty to say about my intelligence, demeanor, personality, and overall character as a human being. I’m waiting with bated breath. Come and get it, Raggedy Anne! Tell me allll about myself!

“I don’t care what you think about Bush, or how you look at it”

    The irony here is amazing!

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 Robguy Jun 5th, 2006 at 4:43 pm

Bush wasn’t elected, but besides that, one of the main functions of the constitution is to provide protections so that the majority cannot vote away the rights of a minority.

The executive branch of government is not “in charge”. Congress creates laws, the President is supposed to enforce them, and the “activist judges” (like the ones that appointted Bush to the Presidency in 2000) interpret them.

I think Raggedy Anne really must have stuffing for brains.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 gary Jun 5th, 2006 at 5:45 pm

Fuck Bush and the sanctimonious bigoty bullshit he pushes to the GOP faithful!

As a gay American I demand the 1,158 rights that are FEDERALLY protected and given my the marriage contract! Those are my birthright as an American…Plain and simple. The only qualifier that is valid for claiming ones rights in this nation is are you an American or not? All else is irrelevant as we are the land of equality. A proud nation where all citizens are seen equal under the law.

    Well, in theory anyway.

Unfortunately, the critically “left-behind” faith-based voters to which he panders are incapable of either understanding freedom, or what it means to be an American. I wish we could remove their right to vote, but it is their right as it is their right to marry. I want to rights too, nothing more, and nothing less will be acceptable.

To close…F! Dumbya and the right-winged assholes that vote for him!

It’s a shame that most liberals and democrats mostly focus on the elections of 2004. When are “you people” going to get over it and start producing something better. The conservative agenda isn’t great, but at least they have a freakin’ plane. That’s the cause of democrats being booted from power in the first place, they had no plan. All they could do then and all they are doing now is bitching. Stop bitching and show me the money honey!

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Simon Jun 5th, 2006 at 6:19 pm

Duane, I’m glad you’re alive and you continue to speak out about important matters like this! I have felt ill all day since I heard the news this morning. Great way to begin a Monday.

I’d like to think things will improve in 2008 but I’m not so sure they will.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 PJS Jun 5th, 2006 at 6:21 pm

About half of the country (according to most polls, a little more than half actually) share GWB’s position Duane and disagree with yours and mine on this issue. I’m not excusing that, I’m just saying that while it pisses me off too, it gives me some perspective. I try not to hate people who disagree with me, even when they’re my representative in the white house.

That said, my real issue here is that Bush’s (and most of the country’s) position on this issue is NOT consistent with one of the primary tenets of conservatism (call it classical liberalism if you like); that is, the right of the individual to be free from the tyranny of the majority. It’s hypocrisy by conservatives AT LEAST on that level, but I’ll take it one level further:

I don’t believe for one second that George W. Bush has anything personally against gay people. (I can’t wait for the flames to be thrown at me for that one.) Hear me out: what I’m saying is that at least I could honestly disagree with him if his position was coming from ignorance or bigotry. I think it’s much worse than that. I think this stance is a clear political calculation: Karl Rove did the math, and gay or gay-friendly voters were expendable.

For me, such double-hypocrisy and calculated horse-trading in my individual rights is MUCH more offensive than plain old-fashioned bigotry.

I believe it comes down to that famous (infamous?) Bush family tenet: loyalty. Bush is a lame duck, he can’t be re-elected. The only reason for him to pursue this agenda point, if I’m correct about his intentions, is to whoop up a mid-term election frenzy and energize the Christian conservative base to get out to the polls and help the GOP hang onto the House and the Senate.

The end result is the same (Bush supports a FMA), but the back-story is much uglier than it looks on the surface.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 GP Jun 5th, 2006 at 7:28 pm

While I think Bush is an evil sumbitch, this issue is being exploited to Republican advantage nationwide. Conservatives are winning big by focusing on gay marriage. It’s a hot button social issue that easily distracts voters from the shortomings of the current Republican leadership. Just look at the governors race here in Georgia, Cox takes a wishy-washy position, Taylor attacks Cox, Sonny attacks Cox, Cox loses, Sonny wins. Democrats need to stick together and fight on this issue or they will LOSE. People like John Barrow who co-sponsored the hideous abortion known as HB1100 “the defense of marraige act” are killing the democratic party. So,as much as I hate Bush, there is plenty of blame to go around.
