the 8:26 phenomenon

Okay, so this is something about me that I think is kind of weird, kind of neat, and kind of creepy. Almost every single day, either in the morning or evening (there are no other times possible, yo) I encounter the time 8:26; as in, I see it on the clock just randomly walking by or something. Now, you may not think that is all that weird, but it is always happening to me, enough for me to notice. And I wonder why. See, 8:26 is my birthday, August 26. Isn’t that creepy, weird, and neat at the same time? Do any of you have “things” like this in your life? I wonder if it is an omen… I hope it isn’t a bad one.

Interesting… that my first podcast on the gapodcastnetwork.com was posted at 8:26pm by Amber! Go see for yourself (click here); weird isn’t it?!

Also, not related, but totally necessary (apparently) for me to stress YET AGAIN… Being gay is not a choice. Period.

I encounter 10:13 a lot. (Usually as a time, but not always; sometimes as a number of an apartment, or something else.) This has been happening for years. It’s weird for me because 10:13 was a number that was often surreptiously inserted into scenes on the X-Files (I was a huge X-Files fan); I think it was Chris Carter’s wife’s birthday or something like that. I seem to encounter it everywhere - like you said, enough for me to notice and think, “Wow, that’s weird.”

Psychologists have a term for this, but I can’t think of it. They say we simply notice things we are more inclined (subconciously) to look for. You may be more inclined to look for 8:26 because it’s your birthday. Same with 10:13 for me bc of the X-Files connection. I don’t know what I think about that, though, because I def. see 10:13 a lot.

I’m not sure if I have any weirdness like that going on, but since you’re speaking of time, my clock is set to go off at 3 (that’s AM, bitches), yet every morning this week, my eyes popped open at 2:37. I’m not sure WTF is up with that. And as for me, no, it wasn’t a choice either, however, I wouldn’t have it any other way even if it was.

I’m always drawn to beer-thirty and half past a monkey’s ass (a quarter to his balls)…

Have a good weekend Van Duane.

Slightly off topic, but I just found your site and checked out your profile. Wish I was as cool as you. The Internets told me I was most like Meg from Family Guy and I’m still reeling from the diagnosis.

I always see 1:11. Whenever I’m on a long road trip I notice the 111 mile marker too. Dunno why as this number has no special significance to me. Don’t worry, you’re not as weird as you think you are (at least not in that respect hehe).
