a wednesday mish-mash

– I am sad today; two good friends (and their partners too, I am not forgetting them) are going through pain. I hope they feel better soon. One is physical, and the other emotional, and I hope they both feel better soon. Love and kisses. Things like this make me think about how fortunate I am, and it bugs me that I am not happier about that fortune.

– Last night I watched the Notebook. Goddamn that is a good movie. Too bad it made me cry like a little girl. As deb suggested, it is probably best not to watch intensely emotional movies when you are depressed. But it is a great movie though! How could I resist?

– Thanks for all of the suggestions yesterday about thwarting thieves. The whole thing just makes me feel violated, and even more pissed because we try to make the neighborhood nicer, and this is the thanks we get. And landmines may be a bad idea, I tend to be forgetful, and I would hate to stumble drunk in the yard one night and find one. Or if Sydney found one… that would be bad. I will just hope they got what they needed and won’t come back. Here’s hoping. And that maybe they will just go and steal all of that sod at the house one street over. A sweeter treat nearby is bound to work in our favor; I hope. Side note: you guys’ comments made James feel better, so thanks for that!

– A friend of mine, deb, has come up with a cool little thing for us to do; we are going to make a mix cd only with songs that we would never hit skip or next, if they were to come up on the ipod or in the car. This means, you ALWAYS want to hear that song. I think this is going to be interesting. In fact, post some of the songs that fit that criteria for you… I would love to know what you guys’ must hear songs are!!

– Sweetwater today. God I love going there.

– I had something else… but it’s gone. Oh well!

geez - what is it about the notebook? you want to hate it, but you just can’t.

my songs: “on peak hill” by stars, “feathers” by the twilight singers, “cannonball days” by ryan adams.

Sebastian LOVES The Notebook but I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve resisted seeing it cause I hate those kinds of weepy movies.

So, songs that I’d NEVER hit pass on? Goodnight and Go, Imogen Heap. Out of My Mind, James Blunt. Black and White, Sarah McLachlan.

Great movie! Sorry to hear about your friends. Just love them. It helps :)

The mix cd is a good idea. But you’ll be amazed at when all the “really good” ones are all together which ones you’d rather skip to hear the REALLY REALLY good ones.

    I’ll throw in:
Tegan & Sara - Speak Slow
    Infernal - Paris To Berlin
    Robyn - Be Mine!
RENT - Take Me Or Leave Me
    BodyRockers - Round And Round

The Notebook is great but could have been better…although he’s just hot to watch anyway.

Songs? I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Songs I almost always pick lately are Perfect Situation by Weezer, DOA by Foo Fighters and nearly any Keane song.

Here are some of my “must hear” songs (note that what qualifies as “must hear” tends to change every few months, with only a very small number that always make the list)…

Leap of Innocence - Liz Phair
    Extraordinary - Liz Phair
    Divorce Song - Liz Phair
Fuck and Run - Liz Phair
Caring Is Creepy - the Shins
So Says I - the Shins
Gone For Good - the Shins
    Penelope - Of Montreal
The Party’s Crashing Us - Of Montreal
Your Magic is Working - Of Montreal
Know Your Onion! - Of Montreal (yes, that’s a cover of a Shins song)
    Pretty Pink Ribbon - Cake
    Comfort Eagle - Cake
    Haunted - Poe
Take Your Mama Out - Scissor Sisters
    The Good Life - Weezer
    Detroit Swing 66 - Gomez
    Celebrity Skin - Hole
How To Be Dead - Snow Patrol
    Run - Snow Patrol
Nude As The News - Cat Power
The Boy in the Well - R.E.M.

Well damn, that’s a whole CD right there, isn’t it.

The Notebook huh? Think I’ll have to check that out. I’ve really been into movies that make me cry lately.
Seriously - I sat on the couch on Saturday and watched “E.T.” for the first time in years and I was bawling when everyone said goodbye to sweet little E.T.
Drew Barrymore was so damn cute in that movie - “We’re going to see the spaceship…the spaceship…to…the moon…”

Oh, and p.s. Sorry about your landscaping!

Amber, all that Liz Phair and no H.W.C.? That’s song is some of her best work!

The Fugees - Killing Me Softly
    Ben Folds - Army
Garbage - You Look So Fine
    Guster - Red Oyster Cult
Jason Mraz - Too Much Food
Jennifer Saunders - Holding Out For A Hero (from Shrek 2) ;)

There is not a CD on Earth that could fit all my songs. But wouldn’t it be fun to try? And send them to you! I think you need to post your address.

Sorry you’re sad. I’m sad too.

    ~Ryan Gosling~ ::sigh::

I hope your friends and their families work through their pain. I hope you cheer up too Duane. I’ll pray for Blessings to fall on you and all that you Love.

Al Denson’s “To Forgive” From the EXTRA MILE CD is a song I never skip. It’s beautiful and if you ever get a chance to see the music video watch it and tell me what you think.

I loved the book so much, I didn’t want to have the movie ruin it. After reading the comments I guess I’ll have to try it out.

As for songs, here are mine that I can ALWAYS listen to:

Sade - You’re Not The Man
Carly Simon - You Belong To Me
Anita Baker - Body and Soul
    Madison Park - Winter Wonderland
Dido - Who Makes You Feel
    The Carpenters - This Masquerade
Taylor Dayne - The Door To Your Heart
Tatjana - Santa Maria (Wah-hey Mix)
Anastacia - One Day In Your Life
Enigma - Push The Limits (ATB Mix)
    Kylie Minogue - Chocolate
Heather Headley - In My Mind (Freemasons Radio Mix)
Whitney Houston - If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful
    Melanie C - I Turn To You
Samantha Mumba - Gotta Tell You
Wilson Phillips - Flesh And Blood
    LeBlanc and Carr - Falling
    Aqua - Barbie Girl

I just have a few… they’re ones I try to listen to just about every day…

    Cowboy Mouth - “Bad”
Guns N Roses - “Sweet Child O’ Mine”
Cowboy Mouth - “You Are My Sunshine”
Jimmy Buffett - “Little Miss Magic”
No Doubt - “Just a Girl”
Alanis Morrisette - “You Oughtta Know”
Bon Jovi - “Blaze of Glory”

So its horribly mainstream, but those songs just make me smile, no matter what.

“Things like this make me think about how fortunate I am, and it bugs me that I am not happier about that fortune.”

I feel like that all the time!

Since I barely recognize any of the songs anyone else has suggested, I’m just going to keep my crappy musical taste to myself. ;-)

So here’s the deal - thanks to this posting Sebastian is obsessed with making me watch The Notebook. We’ve been searching high and low for a used DVD copy for it (he won’t buy new for some reason). I’ve been dragged around to nearly every video shop in walking distance (which in downtown Toronto is a LOT) looking for it. Haven’t found it yet, but I did manage to make the deal that if I have to watch it, he needs to watch Amelie. Which we got halfway through last night before we had to get to bed. ;-) I should neva have told him about this post! LOL
