now, don’t hate me, but…

I hate Blogger. Hate it. It goes down all the time. You can’t leave comments sometimes. And then, the worst are the people that have awesome blogs (see, a compliment!) that turn off the “anonymous” comment feature (hey, I’m not anonymous, I am just not a “Blogger” blogger!). What is up with that? You don’t think my comments are good enough because I use something other than a free blog engine? See, the reason why I hate that, is because, to be honest, I don’t visit those blogs again, and some of them are really good. And that sucks! Plus, I feel like I am not welcome, and that never feels good. Anyway… Long story short, if you want some help moving to movable type (or even wordpress), hit me up! They are much better than Blogger, (but they do cost money… unless you can find free hosting, then rock on!). I think everyone deserves to be free of the Blogger hold. Or, just turn off that feature; because you can moderate comments… I get spammed too, and I deal with it just fine!! That would at least be enough to placate me, and you may even find out I have something insightful (or not) to add to your conversation. After all, that is what blogging is for, right? Interaction and feedback on your thoughts? Exactly.

If you allow “anonymous” (again, I’m not anonymous!) comments on your blog, this does not pertain to you… so no whining. Okay, a little whining, but only a little.

UPDATE: Since all you bitches hate comment moderation (I say bitches in a good way)… I am, gasp, turning it off. We’ll see how long it lasts… if I have to, I will add more plugins, but I noticed that the junk moderator is catching almost all of them; hold, while I run to knock on wood. Maybe, this will make us all happy (including me).

That’s why I ended up getting a blogger account, just so i could comment on folk’s blogs. It’s also why I leave most of my blog entries unlocked, so all you folks can come comment :D
I don’t regret have a livejournal account, though a lot of people look down on them, but I think they are a lot more flexible than other blog types.

    hate you? never….

i’m just jealous you have a posh government job that compensates you to blog enough to become such an expert/critic…

Blogger does suck but for blogging newbies (as I was when I started my blog on Blogger) it’s hard to believe you need anything more than what Blogger provides to you free of charge. When I made the move to WordPress I was astounded by how much more fun blogging could be simply because of a better platform. Hopefully this post will find its way onto the screens of Blogger bloggers and be the catalyst in them leaving such a horrible service. Rock on duane.

FWIW, Wordpress now offers free blog hosting on their own server space.

Good call on Blogger sucking, because it does.

And, WordPress has a free, hosted service (like Blogger’s) at wordpress.com. I’ve never used it, but it’s based on the latest version of WP, so it’s got to be good, no?

The only reason I can think to hate you is your comment moderation.

    I don’t really mean that.

Just passing through by way of Ted’s Diary of a Sane Man….well that’s a bit of a lie…..I’ve been by your blog before and enjoy it….but am hesitant to leave messages on stranger’s blogs….some enjoy that and some don’t…..but as far as anonymous….a lot of peeps do that cuz they get harassing messages from people and have no way to respond back to them….and as far as blogger….it does go down sometimes and is annoying….but not as slow and ‘crashable’ as MSN Spaces was…..when I was a part of that…..anyways keep up the great entries! I became interested in your blog….when I saw what ya did for a living….we have common professional backgrounds!

Yeah, dude your comment moderation is kind of the suck. It takes quite a while for comments to appear and then they’re out of synch sometimes because of other comments that are waiting moderation. I use the word verification thing on my ::gasp:: Blogger blog, which lots of people don’t like, but at least it cuts the spam and allows people to see their comment straight away. It allows for the comments to become more ‘real-time’ interactive and fun.

I think some people who are real newbies just don’t understand how to turn on the Blogger “Anyone” option that allows people to comment with a Blogger ID, as ‘anonymous’ or as ‘other’ (where you can enter name details).

Although, if you do ditch the comment moderation I’ll kind of miss the ‘multiple exclamation point’ “Thanks for commenting!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!” message. (I had to estimate the number of exclamation points.) I especially love that the next paragraph starts with “Chill out”, it’s like ‘how exciting!!! now calm down’.
    :P Just kidding with you.

Oh, gone already. Buh bye exclamations points!!!!!!

I have a love/hate relationship with Blogger, myself.
Okay, I turned off the word verification, but the member part still stands…for now.
    We’re doing baby steps here.
    ;o)

Typepad, being part of the whole MovableType/Livejournal family also is quite user friendly, for a small fee. I started a blog on just about every outlet there is, and as a novice user, it’s pretty good. Even for beginners, it’s quite user friendly. Here’s a great place to go for comparison.
