to razr or not to razr: that is my question

Yesterday, James got that new razr phone from Verizon, and much to my dismay, it is practically featureless. See, my dismay comes with his purchase, because I am getting a new phone in a couple of months, and I had my heart set on the razr. But, now that I have had the chance to see his, and try to play around with the features, I am more than disappointed. You give up practically everything that any of those other phones (even the one I currently have) can do. So, now, I am torn between getting the razr, or getting this one, which is an updated version of the phone that I currently have. I think that it would be awesome to have the razr, just because of the sleek design and whatnot, but I would totally miss being able to have my own ringtones (without paying $2.99 a piece for them). My current phone has a memory card, so I can store literally 128mb worth of stuff on there, and if I got the updated version, I could put music videos and stuff like that on there… So what to do? Anyone have an advice? If anyone has the razr with Verizon, and can key me in to the goods that it has locked inside, talk away… I really want to know.

I’ve got the e815 and I really like it even if it’s a little bulky. I put in the 128mb memory card and I keep a lot of stuff on it. The one thing that really bugs me about it is that I can’t swap files using bluetooth so you have to use a card reader. Otherwise its a decent phone.

I’ve thought about getting a RAZR when my contract expires in a few months, but then I ask myself why I wan’t last year’s cool phone.

I got one New Year’s Eve, and ya know? It’s *OK*. It does some cool shit my other one didn’t, but right now I’m thinking they didn’t think the thing all the way through. I understand there are software updates and I should bring it back to have them installed. Updates? For a new f**king phone?!? Like I said, I like it, but now I have my eye on that Motorola Slvr.

I had a RAZR for a while last year (before giving it to BJ). I liked that it was so thin and fit really comfortably on my face. What I didn’t like was the Motorola interface.

I’ve been using a Treo 650 for about 7 months, and it’s not bad. Lots of features. A little big, though.

I just purchased (and am waiting for) this phone from Sony Ericsson. I used to have the T600, and loved the Sony Ericsson operating system. The new phone will have more features and be smaller than my current Treo. If I end up liking it, I’ll write a post about it or something.

Get the Motorola SLVR L7. It’s the ‘candy bar’ version of the RAZR. Of course, I think it may only be available with Cingular right now… maybe by the time you’re switching, it will be on Verizon. I’ve never used it but it looks cool.

I have the v360. As sexy as the RAZR can be, I think the v360 is probably the better deal. More features, a little bit smarter (if you plug a RAZR into a USB port, it may or may not start charging — if you plug the v360, it starts charging, gives you access to the memory card, and all without extra software). Like the RAZR, it has a MP3 player, of sorts, but it also has a slot for a mini-SD memory card up to 512mb. All in all, it’s super-sweet.

Of course, I say all of this to tease you, because Verizon doesn’t offer the v360.

    I am evil.

The Razr is pretty cool looking. Phones almost have too many gadgets these days. I can’t keep up!!

My god, you are gay. It’s a phone! With that said, I like my little Verizon LG, can’t even tell you the model. I have a T-Mobile BlackBerry, too, functional but not cute at all.

Duane, I feel you. I’m on the phone fence myself. I’ve been a Blackberry 7100t user for some time and trying to decide if I just “want a phone” again. But wait!…a phone just isn’t a phone any more! If I get this, I lose that. If I upgrade to this, then it costs mucho. If I don’t upgrade, I’m a loser in the face of all that is civilized. I love technology, but sometimes we have too many choices.

I just got the Razr last weekend and I love it, but T-Mobile is funking out in my apartment building, so I’m going to have to take it back and switch carriers.
    Blah.
(I would keep the Razr and use it with my new carrier but I got a kick-ass deal on it for signing a two-year contract.)
Looks like it’s back to my old-fashioned free phone…

With Bluetooth and some techno savvy you can make your own mp3 ringtones for FREE. That’s what Terry and I do. And the Verizon one has nearly the same interface as a lot of other Verizon phones, that is to say not the standard Motorola GUI that my Cingular version comes with. The buttons are different that the GSM version as well, and I think I saw that the newer CDMA ones have a 2 megapixel camera as opposed to the VGA one they put on the GSM version. IMO SonyEricsson and Nokia made some of the neatest phones, but they both don’t make many new CDMA ones anymore. I heart my Razr, but I “grew up” with Motorolas so I’m familiar with the often crappy and slow interface, so when I switched from a Sprint/Sanyo back to the Motorola Razr it was like putting on an old comfortable pair of shoes. I wouldn’t mind a SonyEricsson K800i, myself. But anyway blah blah blah the real question is do you want a flippy phone or a candybar phone? Haha…

I’m thinking of jumping ship from Verizon to T-Mobile next month. It all depends on what kind of phone I want. Who knew this shit was so complex?

the RAZOR does have a slot for a memory card. You have to remove the battery though and it isn’t easy to get it back out
