James and I are in the process of beginning to prime the new front porch for painting and staining. We spent the entire day today priming the columns and tomorrow, we begin on the railings. There really is only one problem that I see here: I don’t think that we will be able to do a good enough job on the final coats of paint, to make the porch look as good as it should. I don’t think that we can do a professional job, and that concerns me. All day, we were stopping, in order to get rogue paint splashes up off of the places where it was not supposed to be, i.e. the deck floor. So now, I sit here, sore from painting, and wonder, what should we do?
Should we continue on, trying our best, as James likes to say, or should we bite the bullet and pay for “professionals” to come and do the final coats, in order to make it look its best? I am seriously open for suggestions here, folks. I think that it would end up costing us between $500-$1500 to get it painted, but it may be worth it, since it would look 1000 times better than we could probably do on our own. Thoughts?

Good movie. Jim Sturgess is stunning. I really liked the story, and the plot "twist" elements.

Wow, the visuals are amazing in this film. Guillermo Del Toro is a fantastic artist, and this movie is great. As good as the first? Perhaps, but I think it should have been a little longer, and they should have had more "story"; the focus on the Golden Army took away from the characters that I wanted to see.

Eh, it was a fun, action, eye candy fest... but as far as "good movie", it was not. The writing was even cheesier than the previous two, and replacing Rachel Weisz was weird and awkward. Also... the fact that they had a son since the last one, and he was in his twenties, even though they didn't age?? Weirdness all around!

I loved the concept; city quarantined due to deadly disease... not too far from the truth really. Lots of action, but a few moments where you wonder, "um, what?". Other than that, just a fun apocalyptic thriller.

It was fun, with funny moments, and Seth Rogen was as usual, HOT, but it was just alright. I might need to watch it again, but it was ok.

D- i hope the rest of the project went well or is in progress. a big drop cloth is a very worthwhile investment. i had a few of those semi-disposable (cloth+plastic) ones that i used several times. that and some tape should stop the paint drip problems. i also bought one of those paint guns, but in the end it was a little too messy to clean up (the machine itself) and the with any wind you are going to get paint somewhere else, unless of course you cover it w/ newspaper or a drop cloth.
on a side note, it is good to see the Katrina stuff moving along. CNN is back on here today after a few days off air.
OK guys, here it is from me again. Duane - for you I will say ‘get the damn painters here fast’ but for James - I will say buy a drop cloth and keep up the great work.
If you are doing the prime thing already and you have most of it done - keep going. That is the hardest part and the paint goes on much easier and it is forgiving when it comes to brush strokes and runs. You can prime now and wait a while to paint - like when it is cooler outside.
I know that the heat must be about to kill ya!! Painting is a lot like work - hard work when it is outside. Keep up the great job that I know you are doing and hold on to that money for another project…buy a drop cloth or two and keep going - the end is near - plus you are getting a good arm,leg and back workout free!!
After applying the first coat of primer, I actually do feel better about the whole project, and do believe that we can do it after all. All I am going to say is that we definitely need to tape everything off, cause James is like a paint sprayer stuck on full blast when it comes to precision and “not being messy”. I just can’t wait until it is finished!
