most anticipated movie of 2005… for me

Of course I am speaking of Brokeback Mountain, the movie starring *gasp* Jake Gyllenhaal (swoon!) and Heath Ledger as gay cowboys in love… say what? Yes, a full fledged wide release of a gay LOVE story that, if it is anything like the preview, will be a welcome addition to the lack thereof in gay cinema!!! I think that I have watched this preview like ten times, and I may even go watch it again after I write this. Check it out at upcomingmovies.com. Let me know what you think… Is conservative America ready for gay cowboys, in love?

I, for one, am excited to see something like this being made, and if I have to, I will go see it as many times as it takes, in order to make sure it doesn’t fall to the wayside. I can handle the folks getting up and walking out, like they did in Alexander (believe it or not… good grief), but I couldn’t handle it if this movie didn’t get the attention that it deserves. I am sure there will be some backlash, but backlash is part of awareness, and the only way we will get anywhere with conservative America, is to raise awareness.

One good selling point is that the screening at the Venice Film Festival has gotten lots of great reviews, and that can only mean good things for this movie.

Do yourself a favor and check out the preview… I know that it made this movie THE one to see, for me… perhaps it will do the same for you.

    Heh. You said coming.

Anyway, yeah, that is interesting. I saw an ad for that the other day and thought it was going to be another Kevin Costner-vehicle-type film (only without Kevin Costner). I hope you’ll post a review after you watch it.

Rusty, it is going to take everything in me to keep from telling everyone I know (and everyone else that I don’t) about this movie, before, during, and after I have seen it. If you see banners in the sky, do not be alarmed, just chuckle and go… that duane… ha!

If it is anything like the preview… this movie is going to be amazingly good. Ang Lee usually doesn’t disappoint with love stories!

Yes! This looks brilliant and sweet and sad.
I don’t think I could have a bigger crush on Jake. And the parental warning says there’s nudity…fantastic!

It looks really good! (Although Michelle Willams looks ugly.) But it did something that bugs me about trailers — it basically tells you the whole story. We know they fall in love. we know they get married to women. We know they stay in touch, hang out, & “fish.” I bet one of them dies in the end too. It seems as if too much was given away.

I am really stoked for this movie to come out, no pun intended. I think that it is going to be an amzing love story, and it sounds like it really shows the struggles of coming to terms with being gay. I will be there in the ticket line with you. I am hoping this movie does well!

When I read this short story, I was pulled right in, never thinking it’d be made into a movie. Really lookin forward to it.

    Fuck conservative America!

I welcome anything that breaks out of the tired old stereotypes and clichés that mainstream movies (and TV) use over and over and over again.
