never satisfied…

I am never satisfied, but I thought I would ask before moving forward. Should I keep the menu on the left (see fun flash that I made for navigating my rich, full website), or tank it, and just integrate the links somewhere on this blog? Suggestions? Also, if anyone can show me how to place “recent comments” on the right sidebar, I would be much obliged.

The sidebar 1 on this photoblog tutorial puts recent comments up. Might give you a clue. Check it out:

I would like to see the links somewhere within the Blog page. I like the flash on the left but it takes up so much room. I would also like your Blog page to be the start page without having to click something to move into the Blog.
    Well, you did ask!

You are right, Wendy, I did! And I appreciate it. I kind of feel the same way. I may just get rid of it… but I need to figure out a way to keep the page streamlined or I will freak out. Also… I am concerned, because the blog page SHOULD be the first thing that pops up when you go to duanemoody.com. HMMMMM. Let me know what is going on.

Ditch the whole thing & get yourself a WordPress blog ;) I switched from blogger in December, and love it.

Well, I took the plunge. Got rid of the menu. The whole site is unified and filled with zen, if that is possible. Thoughts?

And Joseph, I took a laborious switch from b2evolution (mySQL based), to Movable Type. I am very happy with it!

Hey, I like the menu box on the right. There is a blank white box on the left now where the menu was. When I go to your wedsite I get the flash menu and still have to click a button to go to your Blog page. Last week when I went to your site your Blog was your homepage - I liked it better that way. You are getting there - but remember that perfection will drive you nuts!!

Wendy, I am almost certain your are looking at a cached version of my site (the major downfall of the internet, in my opinion). When you make changes, it takes a while to cycle through all of the servers, and eventually, your PC will download the new one. You can go ahead and view the changes by holding down “control” and “shift” while clicking on “refresh” (for each link you click on). It should eliminate that silly flash menu, and give you the new, streamlined look of duanemoody.com!!!

And as far as perfection goes, I know that it isn’t attainable, but it will never stop me from trying. It is in my nature (I am a Virgo!!).

I think that I am going to leave it this way… after playing with it all day, I feel like this best represents me. FOR NOW… dun dun dun!

This happens with certain sites, and I’m not really sure why:

I usually check blogs via Firefox’s live-bookmark feature. I can tell when someone posted something new, and just check that particular post. If I come into your blog via the single post, I don’t see any of the side-bar stuff at all. If I go to the main page, though, it’s visible. The site looks good both ways, but just thought I’d let you in on what I (and maybe other readers) actually see.

Yeah, it is supposed to be that way. For single entries, it is just the entry, and you can click on the top to get back to the main blog. Only the main blog page has all the links and side bar stuff. I figure it is much more streamlined that way… at least until I can figure out how to make it show up on other pages. I am still new to the CSS game!! (but I feel like I know “enough”)

Thanks Joseph. I am in love with ginko trees, and this is a snippet of a picture I took of one. They are the most beautiful trees!
